I'm not the moderator, nor do I play one on TV but I think Steve is shy about losing his zero post status and so missposted this request for some real mixer info.

I am almost ready to buy a mixer, and I am down to one or the other of these brands,.....

Soundcraft, altho they are more known for their larger mixers, they do make a few small ones,.....

Mackie, ..... for about the same money, give or take there are several small mackies that I am considering,...... 1202VLZ, or VLZ PRO, 1402VLZ, or PRO, and for some more money, the 1604VLZ, or PRO,.....

so which one for a studio environment, (small studio),..??
I am already leaning towards the Soundcraft, only because of their limited availability, and because I am semi-familiar with the larger boards,....

Any help in this decision would be appreciated, I am gonna do this in the next week or so, so all the purchases are on one monthly credit card statement......if ya catch my drift.....

Don't leave A&H out of the equation.....
I'd say they were built to travel.
A mixer really is nothing more than a bunch of pots and connectors and some preamps. It pays off bigtime to get the top quality stuff in pots, switches, jacks and pres as opposed to paying for the largest # of {pots/switches/jacks/pres} or cutest connection options.

I don't see as many ads for people dumping used ones as I do for Mackies.

My two pesetas.

Personaly I would go for the soundcraft mixer over the Mackie. And no I do not work for soundcraft.

Mixers are in a sence just pots and such stated above. ANd the Mackies are some what translucent. But your mixer will most likly be the tool you use to color your sound. (Like a artist palet)

Soundcraft mixers have a better sounding EQ section. (the color on the palet). SO just by this fact alone it would be a more creative tool.

Mackies are fine. In the bigger studios that use mackie boards the engineer will usually use outboard gear to color his mix. Sounds like you want a do all tool for now.

Check out the new Soundcraft's.

Never tried the A&H

If you just want to be happy and have good sound as well, just stick to A & H
