I am partitioning off a 10 X 11 ft. area in my shop. I have framed the walls and ceiling. Have put in a couple of windows and a door. It is basically a small room in my shop. Any ideas on lay out. I am basically going to record vocal and ukulele. Any ideas would be appreciated. I have a small budget. I know that I will need a decent mic., speakers, computer, monitor, recording device, etc...Thanks for input...

Don't forget acoustic treatment...
Thats a pretty small space, but I'm sure you can make it work.

What do you have for gear now? Do you have a computer? any mics? You're right, you'll need some type of interface. Easiest to start seem to be usb or firewire devices with built in mic preamps. You'll need a minimum of 2 inputs- more may come in handy. For instance, I like to put more than one mic on acoustic guitars, so if you want to do vocals too, you'll need more channels...

Google tweakheadz.com

Let us know what you got... we'll go from there...

Three things first
1 Vocal mic try a SM 7 or a MXL V67g
2 Ukulele mic try a MXL 603
3 Good near field monitors small pair of Yamaha
That should get you started just fill in the rest.Warning--this is an expensive addiction.

Small square rooms are harder to acoustically treat and yours is almost square.
I'd put bass traps up high on your list.

;)

Word (to the peeps).

I can speak from serious experience here - I was "trapped" in a room precisely that size for a while as my new place was under construction.

It was an acoustical nightmare of epic proportions. I will not EVER be in a room that size again. I had a dozen 2x4 broadband panels in that room and it still wasn't worth a damn. 30 & 40dB null points, 15dB peaks - It was a horrible, horrible space.

Carry on.
