descent headphones that won't break the bank?

Im looking for some closed or sealed headphones that are reasonably priced. These will be for tracking. I did a search and saw that alot of people recommend the Sony Mdr-7506 but those go for about 99 bucks which i don't have a problem with but i need a few extra pairs since ive had alot more people recording at my place lately. I can't see spending a few 100 dollars on headphones at this point (plenty of other gear that this could go torwards).
Are there any cheap phones that don't sound like total asshole and are loud enough to be heard over a drumkit? Just curious what you guys are using.

Fostex T20s - but they won't handle drum tracking...... Audio Technica ATH-M40fs will be good for drum tracking.......

where can i buy these online? Our music store here in town doesn't carrry anything worth a krap.

Also consider the Beyer 250 cans -- you can track anything, even a BEAR with these cans and they are "modestly" priced for good cans.

I recommend the AKG K240S - When I first got into recording I did some tech work at a local studio in exchange for learning. One of the jobs I had was to fix a bunch of headphones. Most of the problems were with the jacks breaking from someone steping on the cord and standing up etc... and that was true for the K240's as much as any other however the Beyers and Sennheisers had far more blown speaker/elements then the others.

Wire, Sony MDR-V6's are the same as 7506's, other than having a silver 1/4" adaptor instead of a gold one.
You can get them used on e-bay, as they're discontinued,
and you can save some $$ that way.

I had the same problem, wireneck. I needed cheap phones for groups during tracking. Groups break phones - that's the nature of groups. You can buy five sets of these phones for what one pair of Sony 7506's will cost you. They're closed back, loud, and you can hear them above the drums. And you won't cry when somebody steps on them.

Maestro's Headphone Rule

My rule while tracking is:
Never put headphones on the floor. Not ever. Ever, ever, ever.
If you think you need to put them on the floor, you are wrong. :mad: If you put them on the floor, you have made an error. If you see someone else putting them on the floor, abuse them verbally.
If you see ME putting them on the floor, I am wrong, and should be punished.

If you make this a rule to live by, and re-inforce it whenever possible, you will keep headphones a little bit longer.:D

I use that rule when people come to my studio to overdub a track, but I still haven't been able to train my cats to not throw my MDR-7506s on the floor.

After buying and liking the Sennheiser 280s, which
go for about $100 at Banjo Center, and assorted
others from Sony, Hosa, etc. I sprung
for five pairs of Harvey's cheapies.

Now, what I really need is a hook I can put
on the mic stand so the "singers" can
put the headphones someplace that is
(1) not on the mic and (2) not on the floor.

I can almost take it when they knock into
the stand and cause the headphones to
fall to the ground. But when they try to
save the headphones and cause
a real microphone to come crashing down,
I get moody.
