dented dome tweeter

Ive got a Yamaha MSP5 monitor with a dented dome tweeter.
I don't suppose I can simply 'pop it out' and have it as good as new (or close), can I?
Suggestions?

Sometimes yes. From my experience, duck tape it the best first choice try to pull it out. It that don't work, move to a needle. :)
 
Duct tape AFTER you put it across your jeans a few times to make it less tacky.

Good point! I should have been more clear. 'Duck' tape is a crappy and less sticky brand of duct tape.

Use as minimal amount of force to pull out the tweeter dome as possible. Go further only if need to. Last resort would be pulling with a needle. Worst case will be replacing the tweet. Though probably the best option in the end. :)

Black gaffers tape would be your best bet!

dang - I don't have black


The MSP5 has a little protective frame around the tweeter that complicates the repair - has anyone removed this before - I'm sure as soon as I try, I'll break that too!

Just make sure you've got the little airhole open so it can't lock on.

I've an NS10 dustcap that needs sorted. Can't bring myself to do it though; I break stuff. :(
 
Well the tape worked pretty well - its almost dome-like again.
The protective frame around it does not come off so the vacuum wouldn't work.
Someone had do be pretty stupid do get it dented in in the first place.
I guess I'll start looking for a deal on a replacement tweeter, but for now the only ones I can find are in Japan (for 4,780 yen)

I found a great trick, or addition to this, is using a Hot Air/ hair dryer if you have one, it worled perfectly and you dont need to pull the cone hardly at all. The heat reduced the need to "yank" the tape, allowing a very soft pull. (used the tan colored masking tape)

I did it on some with excellent results, the heat really made it easy, and a little tape as I recall...this was done on the thick caps on KRK..ymmv
