Hi all, new here.

I am mostly into recording live shows, so I have limited experience.I have been asked to help my brother record a demo. He is a singer/songwriter and we'll just be recording him on the acoustic guitar and his vocals. The idea is to get a nice sounding demo. Here is what I have:

Core Sound mini-omni directional mics (2)
Audio Technica 853 x 2
Samson Mixpad 4 four channel mixer
Denecke AD20 preamp/A/D conveter
Denecke PS2 Phantom power supply
Tascam CDRW5000 CD recording unit

Now my brother plays through a PA, I was thinking of running a matrix type mix (PA, and my mics mixed down to two channels). We are keeping open the option of renting some microphones to do this as well, I do feel that my weakest link in the chain is not having a studio quality pre-amplifier. I am open to any and all suggestions. Thanks!

If its just an acoutsic and vocals for a demo then just go for it. Something like that doesn't have to be top notch. It's not really so much about your equipment, just how you use it. I think a girlfirend of mine told me that once. You can get a good souning demo with some trial and error. No one can tell you exactly how to do it since there are infinate variables involved.

Good Luck

equipment help

Hi,
I'm a high school student and I started writing songs a couple of years ago. I have a Casio electric piano and am going to buy a mic. I want to buy a machine that could record what I play on the piano and sing in the microphone and record it onto a CD ( so, a machine with a CD burner).
What are these machines called? what's the best one to get (that isn't too expensive) and would this machine enable me to re-use the same CD so that I can play around with it? (otherwise I'll just get a machine that records onto a tape).
THanks a lot for your help. sorry to post this here, I just subscribed to this link and I don't actually now how to strat a new thread.

Whoa thread highjack! It's ok I forgive you.

So I am sure that I can make something usable with what I have. I am just wondering if anyone can provide a little more direction.

I mean I can definetly take it on as if I were recording a live show, but since it's technically not, I was wondering if there are other options that I could consider within the realm of equipment that I have.

Just looking for a bit of perspective. :)
