Hello,

I have been making audio recordings with cubase se for a few days now and I can at least overdub, eq. etc. I am a guitarist and know nothing of Midi, but I really would like to get a controller keyboard and add some parts to songs.

Can anyone suggest a good reference for getting going with this side of things?

The Native Instruments B4 Organ sound examples sound so great, that I can't resist, but I have no clue how to configure Midi stuff and VStis.

Thanks,

JD

Hi JD,

Are you playing the MIDI in through a keyboard/synth? or are you using pre recorded MIDI and cutting samples from it?

If its via a keyboard then Cubase is easy enough to set up, if its MIDI from sample Cd's or downloaded MIDI then its even easier. To save myself typing a list of how to set MIDI up using SE, if you could just confirm this is what your need help with so i dont talk loads of useless garbage!

Okay - here's exactly what I want to do. Firstly, let me correct myself in that I have Cubase LE, not SE.

What I'd like to do is get VStis, such as the B4 organ
or other soft-synths and play them in real time with
a Midi Controller keyboard, so that I can add keyboard tracks to my tunes.

Hopefully that clears things up.

Sorry, another question...

Im a little confused as to if you need advice in setting up MIDI so you can play it in via a controller keyboard, or you just want advice on how to record MIDI effectively?

My non-specificity gives a clue as to how clueless I am here.

So yes to your first question; I'd like to actually play the keyboard and hear the VSti sounds coming out, and then be able to record them onto a track.

Is there a book for absolute beginners that you know of?
