I just installed my Delta 44 and can only get it to record my mic in mono in Cool Edit pro?

I have an Intel PIII 1GHz, Win2k, 512MBs ram system. I installed the latest drivers from the Midiman site (5.x) and I have my mic connected to an ART tube preamp.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

I have to record tmrw night so I am a little tight on time.

P.S. How do I get to hear my cds? My soundblaster card had a cable to the cd player but there is not such connection on the Delta.

Thanks again

Well, for one thing a mic is typically a mono source unless you have a stereo microphone. Also, unless you have two channel rack version, the ART Tube MP is a single channel mic preamp. Finally, each input on the delta is mono. If you want to record a stereo signal with the Delta, you run the L channel into input 1 (for instance) and the R channel into input 2, and then instruct your recording software to record a stereo file. Or you can just record two mono files simultaneously and merge them (software, again).

As far as playing CD's, you have to use Digital Audio Extraction. The latest Windows Media Player, for instance, can be switched to "digital audio extraction" mode. In this case, the CD is read by the system and played directly through the soundcard, which is the best quality you can get. The old way was to use the crappy DA converters on your CDROM drive, and an analog signal to your soundcard for amplification.

Ok..So I am used to running mics through mixers which always come out with two channels.

So why doesn't CoolEditPro allow me to record in multrack mode. The literature says that if CEP does not record it means that the audio card is not a full duplex card.

I assume the Delta is but CEP is not allowing any recording.

Any ideas on that?

Thanks for the help.

Sorry, I don't know CEP. The Delta certainly is a full-duplex card. Anyway, being full duplex wouldn't mean it could not record more than two tracks at at time, it would mean you couldn't play back tracks already recorded while recording new ones.

Slack(or anyone) can you be more specific about EXACTLY how to set up Windows Media Player to play CD's step by step.....theres a certain Idiot out there with a newly acquired Audiophile thats needs help.....

thanks in advance........

Gidge,

You need Media Player 7.1 or better.

1) Fire up media player.
2) From the menu bar, select Tools->Options
3) From the options window, select the CD Audio tab
4) Under "Playback Settings", click "Digital Playback" and I usually don't select the error correction option.

when i do this (playback CD's like this) it doesnt work. The audio cd's have extreme choppy playback...

Speaking about mono, Media Player and Delta. I can make the Media PLayer sound through my Delta 1010, but when I go to Sonar and record from it, it record in mono. How can I record stereo from the MP? The strange thing is that when I setup the audio tracks in Sonar I only get as inputs Mono Delta 1/2 and so on and Multichannel 1/2 and so on, I get no stereo input option...how come??
