I've got a Delta 1010 in the mail right now. I'm contemplating on how my monitoring set-up will work. I'm gonna need 2 sets of main L/R outs. One going to my powered monitors, the other going to the headphone amp. Does anyone know if there is a way to route 2 main stereo mixes out of the outputs on the back of the 1010 via the software based patch bay? Ideally I'd like to have my monitors connected to out 1/2, headphones connected to 3/4. Thanks, joe.

mmi,

You would be better off making sure you have some kind of mixer to work with. The Delta 1010 has no knobs of any kind - especially an all important volume knob. Taking a direct feed from the 1010 outs to your powered monitors could be an "ear-opening" experience to say the least.

I have my 1010 connected perfectly to a Soundcraft M12. The signal routing is beauty with numerous way to route multiple feeds to monitors, headphone amp, live monitors, aux feeds etc....

You could probably get your setup working but try to control your volume via the software applet would be a bit annoying after a while.

so basically I could get away with just a 2 channel board then... as long as it has two aux sends on each channel. correct? I could just get one of those little berringer or midiman one's for cheap.

Doesn't even need Aux sends. Any little mixer that can handle just 2 of the Delta 1010 outs plus can drive a pair of speakers is all you need. However - to really get your true value from that 1010 - I would get a mixer that has at least 8 direct ins. Check the Soundcraft M Series stuff out if you can. The M8 would be perfect for the 1010. I chose the M12 since I want a few more inputs. The Soundcraft is not cheap...but a fine investment just the same.

Looks like you have already laid out some decent coin for the 1010 - to pair it with an el-cheapo mixer would be a step backward.

ok,

a mixer can be useful, if you have use for it, but for what you want to do, you'll set outs 3/4 as the headphone outs. You can configure what goes out thru it.

Then you set outs 1/2 as your monitor mixer, ie EVERYthing that goes out thru any other output will be duplicated in the monitor mixer, on your mains.

Should you need 2 monitor mixers, the spdif out on the 1010 also has a monitor mixer, and you can get a cheap da and use it as a monitor mixer

What does da stand for?

I'm planning on buying the same sound card, but I was unaware that monitors don't have their own volume knob.

DA- digital to analog converter to convert the spdif stream to analog.

Monitors do have their own volume knob. You can adjust the volume from your powered monitors or your amp.

I would REALLY like to go mixerless, and just use the mixer in cubase. If I can get away with not using a mixer for a monitor mix, that would be nice (less to color the sound). Anybody have a cheap s/pdif D/A converter they prefer most?
