terminolgy check

I thought sibilants were hissing sounds e.g., "s's", and plosives were popping sounds - e.g., "p's and t's". Is that not correct?

That is correct. They are 2 different things

A Plosive is heavy below the 100Hz area
A Sibilance is around the high freqs 5-7k area depending on male female- Teeth - Jaw - etc......

The only corection is that "s" and "t" falls under usualy sibilance and "p"and "b" under plosives.
