I have a Triton rack with 96 mb ram installed. I have the opportunity to get a Akai S-3000 for $350.00. I've heard people say not to use the Triton as a dedicated sampler, and use emu or akai. Should I get the s-3000xl since its so cheap?

And for those who dont know, the 3000xl has scsi already built into it.

What do yall think?

I'm just talking but....

I have only played around with a TRITON a few times myself but I have never seen any reason to not use the TRITON as a sampler except that the setup may be more difficult to use than some others. It would seem better or at least more convient to have all files loaded up from one source, as one file or format, with one audio connection, and one midi line, from one unit. Unless you are just needing the processing power or extra midi channels from the AKAI unit (which is probably pretty damn nice) then I'd say spend that to expand on what you have. Cuz i've never a person willing to admit they've gotten near the full potential from a TRITON or MOTIF. But i'm a gear slut myself so I understand the nice shiny new box thing.... Hell i'd probably buy it and I have a couple samplers already.

But 96MBS of sample memory on the the TR RACK and you don't have SCSI for that?

I have a SCSI card installed already hooked up to a 250 MB Zip Disk. Plans are to add a 9GB HD with an external HD case to the Triton, and a cd-rom, and the Triton will be done.
