So I have two 300 watt 8 ohm speakers. I had a cheap 400 watt power amp running juice through them but that bit the dust. So now I'm looking for something a bit better, at least 600 W/8 ohm.

So far the only decent one I have found that isn't expensive as hell is the Yamaha p7000s. There's one up on ebay for about $500 including shipping (about $750 new). I know there's more out there, and I'm looking for a good used deal so I don't have to break the bank. I know Pyle Pro has one that can "run" 600 w@8 ohm for about $280 new but I'm not sure if its actually any good.

I'm looking for other suggestions so I can know what to browse for on the used market. I guess my max is $500, the price of the p7000s I'm eyeing.

300 Watt Peak or RMS?
I bought the Behringer PMP 1280 S.
Works like a charm.

Used Power amps are all over the place cheap with the onslaught of the powered speaker systems.
What you want to look for as far as a good reliable amp is something along the lines of a Crest, QSC or Crown these amps have sustained the ravages of time on the road for many years and would be my first choice when looking for a used amp.

In fact a friend of mine who no longer uses amps cause of the powered speaker system that he has.... gave me a Crown that has to be at least 20 years old and it works as good as the day that it came out of the factory.

The speakers are 300 watt RMS, so ideally I need at least 600 watt RMS in the amp.

I know about those brands, but I'm trying to find specific models that I can get good deals out of. I don't know why, but I'm having issues finding them.

EDIT: Looking up info on that Behringer. I don't need a powered mixer, unless I get a good deal on it, as I already have two mixers. That and I can't find any information on the ohms. It says 600 x 2, but it doesn't tell me if its at 8 ohms or 4. The price seems good but I'm not getting it if I can't get that information.

Yeah, but the cheapest one that has enough power is still $150 more than the used Yamaha. I'll check out if there's anything used for that model. Thanks for the suggestion.

Is that 600watts in stereo or bridged mono that you need?

stereo....bridged mode is easy, almost all power amps are capable of it, but I need it 600 x 2 @ 8 ohms

EDIT: Musician's Friend is having a sale on some Crown amps. There's this one http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/product/Crown-XLS-802D-Power-Amplifier?sku=481587 which is $300 and its 500 x 2 @ 8 ohms. Still better and its quite good for pretty damn cheap but I feel I should get that extra bit of headroom. Too bad none of the more powerful models are on sale for under $500.

Damping factor is another thing to consider. Older Crowns can give you a much tighter more responsive low end.
Also consider the fact that digital amps won't have the over heating issues that the older monsters will.

Dammit. There was this awesome Crown amp on ebay that I missed. Discontinued a few years ago, went for $330+shipping and I was too slow to bid high enough fast enough (there were 4 guys at the end, not including myself). Would have been perfect.

Now I'm eying a Samson S2000 amp that has loads of power (670 x 2 @ 8 ohms) for less than $400. The only downside is the size and weight of it, but either I do not mind. Its for rehearsals.
