im looking at spending about $600-$800 on a decent enough computer for recording. At the moment i just have a tascam m-1641uf as my interface/mixer and use heaps of plugins and stuff like that.
Ill only be using usb 2.0 with all my stuff coz im just starting out and dont know too much about the other options.
i have absolutely no idea about computers though !
can anyone help me out in choosing a computer?
and whats the way to go, laptop or desktop?
oh and pc as my os is preferable
cheers

One thing to keep in mind is ports and jacks. That's something I wished I had thought of when I got my laptop for about the same price range your in. I currently am using every single jack on my laptop right now.

If you want the portability of a laptop, go with it. Otherwise go with the desktop - you can upgrade hardware in a desktop a lot easier than a laptop so lets say you want to put in some more RAM, it's a piece of cake for a desktop.

Make sure you have a ton of USB ports and firewire ports (future interfaces). Trust me, I thought I wouldn't use all three on my laptop, now I have 7 devices hooked up with a usb card splitter!

does the usb splitter wreck the quality or?
can you suggest some actual desktops and/or laptops that i could have a look at?
coz i have no idea
thanks man

I use the USB splitter for the devices that require less transfer speed like for a mouse and keyboard and save the others for more intensive hardware.

Your best bet is to build your own on dell.com or ibuypower.com (more for gaming). Unfortunately it's not as easy as just picking one out on the internet for music purposes. If you go to dell, you can find premade computers and add on what you want.

Yea that should have enough speed to get the job done. I don't know to much about the new processors these days but I assume that's better than any older processor.

yeah i think im gonna go with that one
might get the ram upgraded to 8gb too :)
thanks for the help mate
