sounds good, esp for a quick mix
the only thing i could say is that the snare sounds a little wierd to me
maby kinda "boxey" ?
can't really put my finger on it
but i'm being super critical, it sounds good

Once again this is a very valid point about the snare. It is eaither two far back or lacks a little crispness. This could be do to the fact that I might have mixed in a little to much top snare mic. I will have to mess around with it a little this weekend.

Thanks for the comments.

All 3 songs have mix issues, but they all vary. Never settle when mixing. Always give it another listen the next morning...and the next. Also, Learn to EQ. I suck at EQing, but I'm learning. These songs are worth the time. I'm with cellar, I would buy this.

yeah I have a hell of a lot to learn......

I am going to sit down with these mixes this weekend and give them a fair try. I will also make a new thread with updates once I have them.

Thanks again for your time

I love the sound of the guitars.. What was the setup?

Great job.

I could have sworn that I already posted in this thread but maybe I listened and forgot to post. I think the sounds/mix itself is pretty descent for the style. Im on small computer speakers so I can't offer any major nitpicks. The only thing that stands out to me is the overheads. When the drummer does the accents on the bell its way louder than any cymbals/hi-hats and the spread is a little funny during those parts. Was that dubbed back in or possibly miced seperate? I was originally thinking that it was the ride bell but the ride itself isn't even that loud in the mix.
That loop in the beginning is great. Thats from the Japanese keyboard demonstration right? That video cracks me up everytime I see it.

Wow thanks....ummm

First Guitar> Ltd Viper 400 (Emg 81's) into JCM 2000 (DSL 1OO) into SM57 into Grace Model 101 Pre into Delta 1010 - Everything was Doubled

Second Guitar > Everything was the same except the guitar itself. He used a 79 Strat which had a Syemor Duncan Hot-Rail in it. Which I hated to know end but he had to use "his" guitar.

Wow thats a great ear. Yeah the bell on the ride was over dubbed for more punch, but I am guessing I gave it two much. That blows my mind you picked up on that.

My main drummer I play with has a very unique style of metal drumming that is heavily based around using the bells of cymbals/rides in place of traditional cymbal bashing. I guess im just used to hearing his stuff and knowing sort of what the natural balance sounds like. Im also a guitarist who pays way more attention to drums than guitar (go figure). At any rate, nothing wrong with overdubbing the bell for an accent, just kind of stood out IMHO.

Yeah the more I listen to it the more it stands out, but I don't think your average joe would even notice. None the less it is starting to bug me.

I realize that I'm chiming in about two weeks too late on this one, but I have to say that, from a song standpoint I think these songs are great. I'm a big fan of the thrashy old school punk rock/grind sound, and I think these guys nail it pretty much on the head. From a mix standpoint I can say that it sounded pretty good on my shitty computer speakers...I was able to easily pick out all the instruments. On my headphones (7506s) I thought that it sounded a little bass heavy and the snare was low in the mix (two comments you've already heard plenty of). I liked the snare sound though...kind of reminded me of Dying Fetus a little bit. And the vocals...tell that guy that for having never sung metal before, he sounds like a seasoned vet. Reminds me of JR Hayes when he's not screaming at the top of his lungs (ever seen the live video of them where he breaks the mic and sings without it, and you can still hear him over the FOH mix? Insane.)

All in all though, I thought these songs were good, and in a genre like death metal I think that having good material is way more important than a perfect mix. How many metal records have you listened to that had less than stellar production, but the songs just kicked your ass into next week? I know I've heard quite a few. These songs made me want to break out the Nasum and Assuck records. And like some of the other guy's said, "I'd buy this". In fact, tell me how I can and I probably will.

great tune! it's all good.. great vocalist.. in a few parts the vocals were a bit loud for my tastes.. not always though..

I would dump that intro and just let it blast without warning.. interesting double delay usage on the drums in the chorus..

killer shit!

I have nothing constructive to add...but these recordings rule. :)

Hahahaha I love the intro. That Asian guy with the Creative MIDI keyboard is my hero. Pretty good mix, pretty good band. Who are these guys? Give the kick just a little more click and more snare!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I like it. Reminds me of 7th grade (not in a bad way, just when I listened to stuff other than goregrind). Good job.
Ah damn you beat me to it.... :D

That guy is amazing! I bet he can really play too. But then again, it was all fingers....

As far as the mix, it scared the hell out of me, so job well done!

Wow these are some kind comments.

Great catch on the Dying Fetus snare, that was a reference I was using to track and mix it.

Your comments about songs standing on there own regardless of mix could not ring truer. Most metal albums I grew up listening to have had some of the worst production I have ever heard, but for some reason they still just kick ass.

As far as that old school punk rock/grind/metal sound goes, that is a lot of what we were going for. That comment alone will make a few of the other members very happy.

The original bass player was let go about a day after this stuff was recorded. The bass player that is currently handling everything has been friends with the band for years, and is by far the best bass player I have ever seen. I would put him up against anyone in any genre.

In regards to purchasing this. The artwork is finished, the music is 90% mixed and mastered, and a website is in its final stages of completion. The CD will obviously be for purchase on the website. Once these things are finished I will be sure to let everyone know.

Once again....

Thanks

We are going to dumb the intro for the final product. It was more a joke for the board memebers then anything.

I am not sure if I follow your double delay usage comment. What song and what do you consider the chorus? There was no effects used on the drums at all....

Anyways

Thanks for the comments.

I thought you only posted one song.. lightning.. the part I considered to be the chorus was the part that seemed to repeat after the verses.. like a chorus.. the delay thing I thought I was hearing may have been just the hard panned ride cymbal.. sounded strange to me.. first heard @ :24, :29, :34, :40 etc..
