Death metal drum bounce from Superior 2.0.. looking for comments

There are times when I can appreciate what they do. But I figure, to each his own. There are people who hate pinch harmonics but it didn't stop Zakk Wylde from making a career of it.

I am just curious, would you be able to send me the midi file for this? I would like to play with it a bit.
 
Personally i think that the drums will work for what you are trying to do. They have the typewriter kick drum sound that will cut through a wall of guitars, the snare is good. As far as the china...i would leave it. It is very common in this type o music...especially riding it during syncopated breakdowns. Don't worry so much about what others think of cymbals and sounds...do what you like, post it, and let them rip it apart after some guits, bass,and vox are on it. You need to please yourself and then ask questions...you will never satisfy everyones tastes. And when posting this type of music most folks around here would say the drum sounds,of Lamb Of God, All That Remains, Meshuggah, Nevermore,SYL,As I Lay Dying and most other metal bands are robotic, mechanical, lifeless, and unrealistic so take the opinions with a grain of salt...regardless it is that style of musics standard/typical sound.

So if you are trying to emulate those type of bands drum sounds you are on the nuts, if you are expecting people here to like it you are asking oopinions of people who don't like the metal/typical drum sound. It is a fine line, and a tricky question to ask.

Thanks man. I have taken quite a bit into consideration about the velocity adjustment and that kinda stuff though so they're sounding better. I'm struggling with the guitar tone now, unfortunately :(
 
Well I'll put in my opinion since I am a long time metal fan, player, etc. To start with your meter on the bass drums is great, almost too good and that's why people are accusing you of being a robot. You have a lot of compression on those BDs and I would consider going with slightly less so you get a bit more resonance. You can still cut through the 'wall of sound' of the guitars if you leave enough attack.

The toms sound great, I wouldn't change those other than to make them a little more prominent (loud) in the mix. The Wuhan (sounds like a Wuhan anyway, which I love) you are using is fine but could use more sustained resonance and prominence also. Not sure how to accomplish this but if you have one around with rivets it might help, and mic placement is a big factor. In any event you are right, the trashy sound is hot for metalcore.

Okay, the snare: I would loosen the strainer a wee bit, then try to get rid of some of the ring, either with the damper or with the mixer. What I would want is a slightly rich, deep tone with sharp attack. This is my opinion however - you might like the twangy ring.

Look forward to the revised recording. :)

you do know that these are programmed drums, correct?
 
I guess not ;) But I'll make sure to get the revised one up ASAP. Any more comments, anyone? I'm taking everything on board and it's all been pretty useful.

Going to be re-recording the cymbals this week, my e-drums came back into stock today so I'm going to record the cymbals/snare with realistic velocities to take the roboticism away from them :)
