hi folks-i'm new and just need some good advice from someone in the know. i'm shopping for a digital recording studio in the thousand dollar range that i can burn a demo quality cd with. i had a kord d1200 and was really disappointed. i'm looking at some roland stuff, but i'm not really familiar with their product line. i am lower level trying to get to mid range home recording, and any suggestions on what i should be looking for will be greatly appreciated. there's no band involved-i am the band, if you know what i mean. i have a korg 16 track sequencer that i work from. i'm pretty well versed as far as computers go, and have some experience with digital recorders. thanks to any response!

IMHO, if you've got a choice...go software based and get you a good firewire audio/midi interface like the M-Audio Firewire 410...you can get Cubase, Cakewalk, or Protool's Mpowered from $100-$300. I've had that crap by Zoom (aka samsontech) and it was a glorious day when I sold it on ebay. I've also had the Yamaha Aw16g...while it is worlds better than the Zoom stuff, it just left me wanting more.

More effects, flexibility, virtual instruments, editing, and etc. If you have a decent pc already...get something like that. As cheap as computers are right now...you can honestly get a good midlevel home studio for under $1000 including the PC...thats roughly what I paid for the Yamaha model when it came out and the stuff I have going on now software based is 100 times better.

Again, just my humble opinion.
