DAW users- where are your old standalones now?

i guess i sat on mine too long and i can't even sell it now. at least not for a price that would make it worth selling. i like it and all, just haven't used it in a couple years.

what about yours? use it as a submixer? remote recording? did you get rid of it in time?
discuss....
 
I have my BR1600 in my spare bedroom. I could still probably get a decent amount of money out of it, as they seem to be going on Ebay somewhat frequently, at least whenever I'm curious, there seem to be a few there.

I'm still holding onto it for now in case I ever get around to wanting to record my drumkit. Would make a great interface for that purpose.
 
I ebay'd mine and used the money to upgrade to a better interface
 
I have and use my Korg D3200 almost every day. I prefer the 'hands on' feel standalones have to point and click of DAWs. I guess one day, I'll use it as an interface, but for now I'll stick to the studio-in-a-box
 
I traded a Tascam Porta02 MkII for my Boss Micro BR. I use it in conjunction with my DAW.

It's very small and easily fits in my gigbag. I record rehearsals on it every week and then transfer them to my DAW when I get home.
 
I ebayed on of my portastudios, I use the other one to record stuff in different rooms that are not practical to use my desktop set up for
 
I still track on my TASCAM 2488, then I bring the files into my computer and mix them in REAPER.
 
yeah, i really like mine alot. powering it up to take pictures reminded me of how cool the thing is.
i'm kind of reluctant to get rid of it but i just haven't used it in so long and space is precious at my place.

mixing in the computer is just so much less of a hassle. if i'm working on more than one thing at once all my track levels get saved with the project etc.
 
Still use my AW4416 as primrary recording machine. I use Reaper for MIDI drums and not much else at this stage. I don't even own an interface but have some good standalone preamps instead...
 
My Tascam DP-008 is just sitting under some amps.
The SD drive kept getting errors, i started using cubase, i wanted to sell it after repair, but now i found out it'll be 150 for repair. which is dumb for something i paid 230 for.

i dont know what to do with it
so it's just a paperweight now

Bin it... in the scheme of what you'll pay to be a musician over the rest of your life, this is peanuts...

Way back in the day, about 10 years ago, when I bought my AW4416, it cost me $5,500 - which in today's context of really cheap gear was an absolute fortune.... don't regret a cent... just wish they still made machines of this quality... when it dies I guess I'll go PC...

Yeah. I'll just send it up the attic, and find it in 20 years.

Man, 5500? The outboard things I could do with that!

Yeah, I can see how fast things have changed in just the 2 or 3 years since I've been into recording, it's crazy.
 
Never had one exactly- ('tape > ADAT (synced' to a 1/4" :o:rolleyes: more ADAT.. then DAW's.
Presently on DAW rev4... but serfing' here on the old rev2 :)

ha. i have it's little midget sister, the AW16G. new, in it's time, it went for almost a grand.... about as much as i paid for my two Motus. that 4416 looks like quite a machine though... 44 inputs?? that can't be right!

don't be sad, it's gone over the rainbow bridge where all the good standalones go. now it's knobs and faders are shiny and smooth and it records all day like it was new. ;)
 
I have a pair of yahama MT100 4trackcassette macines that I still use here & there - the preamps in tracks 1 & 2 are really quite cool. I have Roland Disclab that I've basically used about thrice & it's really cool but I was given it AFTER I'd started working in a computer so it's lack of flexibility in mixing let it down - that and the luxury of automated fader mixing in a computer. I also have a Zoom R16 which is excellent & I use it on & off as an interface into Reaper and hope to learn how to use it as a control surfacr as it's supposed to be good for that. As you can tell, I don't manage to sell & dump stuff. I dumped my 1st ever PC only a year ago (it had 8 meg RAM & about 800meg HDD) when the built in screen died - I hadn't used it for much in years but there were a couple of programs that I still enjoyed that need Win95.
 
last time i used a 4-track cassette was a few years back and it was pretty hard to find tapes for it. at the time i wasn't much of an online orderer.
 
Sold my portastudio but still have a cheap, external cd recorder that records to Music CDs. I keep it around for the day every computer in my house dies and I have to do a quick and dirty recording for somebody How stupid is that!?!
 
I use my Akai DPS 24 almost every day. Mainly cuz I don't wanna go computer route...there's a mutual hate/hate relationship with me n pooters.
