Hello!
I'm looking to start doing some recording...Basic demos, song ideas, maybe some stuff to give to friends, booking, etc...A real basic setup: 2-3 guitars, vocals, bass, drums, keys and would like to go with a stand alone setup. Any advice from you all on a low learning curve, easy to use, 8-12 track DAW? Price is a limit and I would like to keep it in the under $850 range. Effects would be cool, but a simple operation is better. I am new to this and need a bit of guidance...
Cheers!

8-12 tracks at once?

That might cost you more than your humble budget.

Good question about the 8-12 tracks simultaneous...it's important for us to know what you already have and what you don't have, and what you specifically want to do...

Are you talking about a DAW as in a computer, or as in a stand alone unit? If you already have a computer you 'might' be able to pull this off in your budget but not unless you have mics and stuff already...If you're talking about a stand alone unit you might be hooped at your budget.

No..No..8-12 Tracks total. If it could do 4-6+ at once that would be of the most benefit....I am really looking at a standalone unit. The one im my sites is the Korg D1200mkII....Any thoughts on that one? Any others?
Cheers!

The Boss units are very good units........BR 1200 CDR.....I have the 1600 and is a very versatile unit!

I really dont think you can go wrong with any of these, except for the Tascams, IMO there are better stuff than TASCAM's.

The prob. with the Korg is it will only record 4 tracks at once, 2 of them being XLR inputs and 2 being 1/4" So if your looking for all XLR inputs, look elsewhere (especially if you intend on using all phontom powered mics, but you could always buy phanton boxes and plug them in). It just depends on if you want to spend money now or later.

See, i think you are going to be left in the dark by your budget. In order to get 4 tracks at once, you gonna half to raise your limit.
