data transfer to PC

Hi everybody! I'm quite new in digital recording and I need to know how to transfer the material I've recorded on my Korg D-8 HD recorder into the PC HD. I own a Pentium II PC 350 Mhz, 192 Mb RAM, 8 Gb HD, Maxi Studio Isis Sound Card (see guillemot.com), which have SP/DIF port, optical and coaxial as well. I am new as well to all of this, and wanted the same answer when I was shopping around. When I was able to call the Korg tech people they told me that it can't be done. I couldn't understand why and said that there must be some way of doing this, adapters etc, but the guys answer to me was, "if you transfer the data into your computer, it would be scrambled and the computer wouldn't know what to do with it". That is an almost direct quote.

you could probably use a program like Sound Forge and press record on the program and play your recorded material from that into the mic input on the sound card. Then you could save it as a .wav file.
 
The Korg tech person you spoke to is, to put it charitably, a clueless halfwit. tarandkorn was perfectly correct: all you have to do is record the sound from the D8 onto your PC as you would record any other sound. In this case, you are doubly blessed because both the D8 and your sound card have SPDIF digital I/O, so just get the correct cable and you won't drop a bit!
 
I think he was more like, as Bugs Bunny would say, "a marroon".
I also want to say that this site is the only place I know of where a beginner can get a good answer. Thanks Dragon and the rest of you.

EUREKA! After a lot of pain and hassles, I did it!!! I've just connected the D-8 and the PC's sound card with S/PDIF optical cables and ---> crucial point!!! --->enabled the so-called 8/4 console of the Studio ISIS to receive S/PDIF signals, enabled two stereo tracks on the audio mixer of the bundled software (emagic Logic Pro Audio), pushed REC and...that's it! I'm very happy now :-))) Thanks a lot. Marco.
 
Way to go Bravocolumb! I bought one and then cancelled my order after talking to that "place your word here" tech person. Keep us posted as to how you like the Korg D-8, I would be interested in your discoveries.
 
I'm very happy for you, especially since I never did anything like that myself, but it shoulda worked...and it did!!!
