DAT help please.

Hello,

I try to put together a homestudio, and everybody tell me I need a DAT machine. I`m new to homerecording, so can anybody please tell me why I need a DAT?

I have one and still use it but depending on what you want to do in your studio and what medium you want to mix to, you probably don't need one.
