More good stuff, Rami. Don't have any nits with this one - I can usually think of something, but this one sounds really polished to me.
Thanx a lot Johny. I guess perseverance pays off sometimes. Rather than scrap this tune, I really liked the groove, but could never find a vocal part I liked, especially the chorus. I think I've re-written the chorus on this one about 4 times, with different titles, lyrics, etc....Usually, I'd have just put it to sleep, but I knew this just needed a good simple chorus and I didn't want to waste what I thought was a potentially good song.More good stuff, Rami. Thanx a lot, K. I'll give this a fresh listen in a few days. If the overheads need to come up, that's easy to do. I just turn everything else down a teenage cnut hair.^^ and that's a good thing.
Always impressive performance, and excellent materials. I'm not sure the cymbals are dialed in a little low ... but that's a taste choice anyways.
Enjoyed it!
Thanxk Heat. Yeah, doesn't that happen in everybody's threads? 3 people say turn them up, 3 say turn them down?I think this one's done? I don't hear anything at all out of place nor anything I could think of changing.
I know in some of your threads (maybe not this one though) the question of vocal levels comes up. Turn 'em up, bring 'em down. Seems to have been a theme at times, but maybe I don't remember correctly. Anyway, on this track, they sit perfectly imo. Wherever you have them, that is exactly where they should be. Fits perfectly. Good job.
Not a whole lot to suggest here, this sounds great to me. The only thing that sticks out to me is the bass sometimes sounds really wooly and sometimes sounds more defined. Is that more than one bass track, or some automated effect on it?
Thanx alot Bruth. I have no idea who Phil Keegy is, but I hope he's good.I really like this! The guitars remind me of Phil Keaggy...love the lyrics too. awesome job
Thanx Ido. I hear what you're saying about the bass. I like this sound, but if I ever re-mix this, I'll play with it and see what happens.Sounds good Rami, the only thing is I would prefer more bass on the solo part-not bottom end but definition? maybe. I'm thinking like Radar Love or Queen. That's just a preference as right now it has a cool sound. There was a song I wrote where Mike did a little bass riff every so often and I cloned the bass track and pushed the mids/highs? so it popped out then the track went silent and the bass went back to "normal". Just a thought as I said this doesn't need anything. Oh yeah the vocals are good level for me....![]()
Thanx Tad. No, one bass track. The only manipulation I did was what I mentioned earlier in the thread. In the bass break, I added a "Massey Tape Head" plug-in just to dirty it up a bit.Not a whole lot to suggest here, this sounds great to me. Thanx Dobrother. Other than the Tape head plug-in for the bass break, it's just my Ibanez active bass, plugged directly into my interface. At mixdown, I put a Waves Guitar bass cab on it.Yeah, that's what I want to know. The sound he gets on that bass is absolutely smacking delicious.
I'll check it out. What is it? A tape emulator type plug?Have you tried the Ferric TDS plug on your bass? It's free and sounds pretty good when I've tried it.

Just saw it. I downloaded it since it's free. I'll be playing with it. Looks similar to the Massey Tape head, with more functions. I like the Massey because it's not a Compressor/Limiter/Toaster/Tire Pressure Tester all in one. It simply has DRIVE and Volume. Just the way I like things.
Thanx Johny.

I usually take everything everyone says (almost) into account. But for this tune, I don't care if 50 people told me to turn up the vocals, I know for a fact that I love them right where they are.
Yeah, because of the lyrics and overall vibe of the tune, I felt like the vocals need to sound like someone drowning in a music swamp....or something.Yeah, I'm always 'turn up the vocal' but I get how the vocal level in this one works. For me, it gives the impression of the singer working in the context of a loud band, and that impression is part of the impact of the song.
Wow, what a cool track!
Awesome grooves dripping with style. Just killer riffs. This is right up my alley for sure.
Love the sparse instruments in the verses, but I think there is a lot of opportunity for new elements to come in for different sections of the song to create more contrast and dynamic change.
Drums feel a touch dull in some spots. Well, the snare does. It is likely a subjective choice of course, but IMO, it doesn't serve the song quite perfectly as is. I actually just faced a snare that could have used a bit more top end content just like this one and instead of applying EQ (which would have sounded un-natural), I ended up driving it pretty hard using the input drive of a Neve type software EQ, which gave it some nice top end content. It was just what my track needed, but YMMV of course.
The bass is very tight, which is great, but there seems to be room to feature it a bit more, or maybe alter (or accentuate) the tone with a bit more of a saturated sound.
Just suggestions based on personal taste, of course.
Great vocals. Just awesome.
This is a super cool tune. Very, very nice work.
Great sounds, great performances, tight creative harmonies, and VERY original. Most importantly though... it rocks!
I love your stuff Rami!
Hey guys,Tight and melodic, great guitar and vocal harmonies! Kind of reminiscent of some of The Eagles edgier and darker stuff. I like the lyrics too, french kissing the floor, lol. I always enjoy guitar play and the little licks that pop out at just the right time, like the bend-down into the chorus, nice.
Hey guys,
Sorry. I haven't been around for a few days. I really appreciate the comments and pointers.
Fishy, if you see this post, can you tell me a little more about how you "fixed" a dull snare. I'm not totally understanding what you did, because you said you didn't EQ it but you ended up driving it pretty hard using the input drive of a Neve type software EQ. So, am I to understand you put it through an Neve-type EQ just to get the color it gives, but left all the bands flat? I agree with you about my snare on this tune, it's a little cardboardy and I tried a few things, including drastic EQ, saturation, etc...and nothing helped as much as re-tracking probably will. Anyway, if you see this post (my fault for not responding sooner), give me a little more details. Otherwise, I'll probably just re-track the drums now that I have my snare sounding better.
Thanx a lot everyone.
