i didn't want to post this, but i am left with no choice...

i went to see the smashing pumpkins play in New York City in 1999, they played at a small club (about 700 people) the show was amazing...after all the hub bub, my friend and i stuck around for an hour until everyone left...we stayed and drank a few beers...my friend exclaimed that he was going to try to meet D'arcy (the bass player), that he had a major thing for her...i told him to get real, that we'd never get to meet the band...i was right...they stayed back stage the whole night, but their gear still remained in place...so my friend made his way over to the stage and while nobody was looking, he made off with her bass guitar...he ran out of the club and i lost him...two security guys ran after him screaming..i was screwed because he was my ride...to make a long story a bit shorter...i made my way back to his car, he was nowhere in sight, but the bass guitar was in his backseat...i waited there for nearly an hour until he showed up again..turns out he had to ditch it and run about 20 blocks avoiding the guards...he sold me the bass for 500$ and now i need rent money, i will be selling it on eBay in a couple weeks...if you're interested, drop me a line.. my only proof that it is her bass are some photos of her playing it/../

Do the right thing and send the bass back to D'arcy.

return the bass

i have pondered that a good deal and i think you are right....i have no way to get a hold of her...i thought about sending it to her record label...what do you recommend>?

I'm sure if you search around the internet you can find a fan club, link or website that would provide an e-mail address that would get through to her.

i've searched and searched and found e-mails that i thought would work, but never did...believe me, i don't want to sell or get rid of it, i'd like to return it to her...but i am baffled

You didn't steal it, your friend did. You payed $500 for it and now its yours. It happens everyday, someone steals something that doesn't belong to them, they go and pawn it for money, someone else buys the item, end of story. Sell it, get your money and let the worries fall into another's hand. Its not the best way to look at things but its reality.

There is no way your going to get a hold of D'arcy anyways. She left the band before they broke up. Atleast you thought about doing the right thing. Its the thought that counts.

It is not yours. If you buy something that you know is stolen, its called "receiving stolen goods", I believe that's a felony. I'm not qualified to give legal advice, but if you rode home with that guy, knowing that the bass in the backseat was stolen, etc., I think you were probably an "accessory". If you are not going to do the right thing and return it, I would'nt advertise the thing on the internet as ever belonging to her. I wouldn't post that story again, either.

luckily i was able to contact a person at the record label that she co-founded and it is going to be returned to her very soon...i just couldn't hold onto it any longer, as much as i loved having it in my possession...the right thing will be done..thanks for all your feedback..sometimes the issue of money clouds our brains, but luckily i felt a good amount of guilt as well....:)

What the heck is she doing with a bass guitar anyways.... She is definately not "good"...

Ok, she can play the smashing pumkins 3 note, consisting of quarter noted entirely songs... but is she even really any good..?

I am a fan of the pumpkins... I really dig them, but i just laugh at her playing.... I saw her on an awards show and even the way she holds the bass, looks like very amateur.......

I don't want to get flamed, and for all the fans, I want to make it clear that i think the music is really good....And either way, she is better than ME on the bass, THATS for sure!:D

PS>> Good move on the bass.. Give it back, be honest..:)

vox vox vox....she might not be able to play very well...you have to remember that she was just billy's stooge....but she is HOT! and she looks mighty tasty holding that 4 string beast...

after relentless searching and posting..i was able to succesfully find a means to get it back to her...she could probably care less, being a millionaire and such..but that isn't the point obviously...thanks for responding...

i too am a huge fan of the pumpkins.....Jimmy Chamberlin is by far one of the most versatile and dynamic drummers that i know of..

Jimmy Chamberlin is Definately Overated....... He is a great Drummer.

overrated? the guy can fucking wail. at the 1999 NYC club show, he solo'd for 5 minutes straight...everybody was dead silent and eyes glued front...it was transcending to say the least...then again it was his first show back, but it was something superhuman in my senses... :) who else do you like?

i am really really digging this band from Iceland called Sigur Ros...my lord, thes young guys can play something worth listening to over and over again... later

Other than the music thing, i am part owner of a steel plant, and while im not anywhere near "Rich", I am comfortable..... You'd be suprised at what such a silly item might mean to someone.. even If they are a millionaire...

I have a 1978 Fender Jazz Bass (USA)...worth$1000. alot of bass players that would murder me to have it... But though I like it, it's doesn't really mean much to me....

Now on the other hand... i have a $200 Mexican Strat, that means the WORLD to me.... Even though I can go out and buy a couple others..today if I wanted to, I would cry for days, If that mexi strat ever got stolen....

Know what I mean?... So, it might mean alot to her, and If you tell her that you paid for it, in order to return it to her, she might be really pleased with you...

On a related "hot" note.

Isn't there a website or database that tracks stolen guitars specifically? It seems I remeber Guitar Player referencing a Non-Profit Musician run organization that kept a data base for everyone. Its not just the rich and fameous that get equipment stolen.

Fortunately I have never had any music equipment stolen but if someone unknowingly bought something that had been stolen from me I would try to reimburse them for returning it if they could not get their money back through legal recourse or the the threat of turning them in.

I know Bass Player regularly runs recent hot bass alerts when they are aware of a particular artist having something stolen so we can be on the look out .

While you are hooking up with celebrities I would appreciate meeting Rebecca Gayheart if you feel like the extra credit.

See what i mean..... The picture in the link that Buck posted... Just look how she is holding the bass.... Reeks of amatuerism.. (is that a word?)

:D

BTW......you all know you can be traced by your logged IP address don't you? lol...:D
