amen to that.
i'm very very very picky about my vocalists. Being a composition major and an instrumentalist who is fond of jazz....the vocalist has to really impress me to like him/her. And Maynard does just that. His tone, style and technique is right on. I think he still is one of the only rock singers that can hold a note for as long as he does.

What you've heard on the radio, Tim, is not Tool. Yeah, those are the popular songs....and in my city those songs have JUST started to become songs that are being played on the radio. In fact, just a few weeks ago I heard the DJ of an alternative station that usually plays Blink 182 or other pop bands say "yes, that was a Tool song...mark it on your calendars, we played a tool song."
Alternative music has become harder lately. Anyone listen lately to the radio? It's more Metallica and stuff on the alternative stations, so the "rock" stations have resorted to a little more hardcore/head banging or old school rock. Tool is really neither of those.
Still some of my favorite Tool songs that you won't hear on the radio
The Grudge
Eulogy
Parabola
Triad
They have a lot of really avant garde stuff...more experimental rock than anything....that you will never hear on the popular or rock stations. Such as, Message to Harry Hanbeck and that phone call to a judicial office or something in LA.
Not to mention, their one of the few bands that I've heard of who have thrown a piano off a cliff for the sole purpose of recording the sounds of it!
