Well, I just found out this morning that the computer I have been using for recording is going to be taken away...it was something a friend and i used together for video editing a couple years ago...

well, whatever....so I figure ok, this sucks...i have to get a new computer for audio now...and I have recording to do next weekend...so, i need to get something up and running and tweaked and stable by them..

I placed an order with newegg this morning and it already shipped...check this out...crazy as far as i'm concerned..

Enlight ATX Case w/350 watt Sparkle Power Supply
Gigabyte RAID GA-7DXR (AMD761) Motherboard
AMD Athlon XP 1600+ Processor
512 MB DDR (2100) RAM
Seagate Barracuda IV 60 gig HD
Sony 52x CD-ROM drive
Mitsumi Floppy Drive
ATI Xpert 2000 32meg AGP graphics card
Netgear Network card

All of that for like $530 shipped...i will have it tuesday.
Pretty beefed up system if you ask me...for 530 freakin dollars. What are we making this stuff out of - sand??

Already have my 17" monitor to use with it still....throw my Aardvark Q10 in there and I should be rolling again.

God bless it

I picked up the case (60), graphics card (30) and network card (10) from a local store...just becuase i was there, checking on the power supply issue. And becuase it was gonna be 20 bucks to ship the case from newegg (but..theres was 20 bucks cheaper anyways...so, it didn't really matter). The same gfx card newegg has though for a couple of bucks cheaper...

at any rate, for 530 bucks you are set. (as long as you have a monitor)

Yeah, seems that now is a great time to buy. like, motherboard...a couple months ago was 150 i remember...now it was 101, etc. Great stuff...has the built in dual RAID controller...I may take advantage of that sometime. but I think 60gigs will last me a while.

Thats a damn nice deal there, and i wasn't sure if you were joking, but yes, most of it is made out of sand, silicon my friend, rules the world we live in. Just my musings, have fun with the comp!

That sounds like it rocks!! Don't forget a burner!!!!

My A list includes the Plextor and the Yamaha.

even the 60GB drive will run out quickly without a burner.

Yeah man, i priced out a system I'm building for a friend, more slanted towards gaming than recording, and it came to $600 with an 80gig HD, AMD1800+, 64MB DDR AGP card, 512 DDR RAM etc. from newegg.com.

The only catch with them (and i don't really see it as a catch) is to get the cheapest prices you buy the OEM parts, which don't come in the fancy retail boxes. But I really don't care about that, when I'm saving that much money.

I build em for $80, keep it in mind.
Dude, return the 761 chipset and get a Via kt266a, like the Epox 8kha+, (I just bought one myself), top rated board, very fast and overclockable, very stable. Just get rid of the 761 now, its kinda old news DDR chipset... trade off while you still can, the 266a is just better, and the Epox board is very very good. Everything else you have will work fine with it.
If you liked what a computer that was a few years old was doing for you, you;re gonna lve your new one. :)
Mine:
Epox 8kha+ newegg.com
256 DDR RAM from Crucial.com
geforce 2 vid card with 32mb ram onboard
AMD xp 1800 thompsonscomputerwharehouse.com
nice case with 350 watt from electroseller.com
40gb Maxtor 770 harddrive with fluid dynamic bearing
$522 total... nice.
