After 40 yrs of playing live, is this the first time you've injured a finger enough to impact the gig?? That's pretty impressive.

That's a bummer when playing is how you keep the lights turned on.:(

I could never be dependable enough to be in a band because I smash my fingers regularly at work.A few weeks ago I peeled the top of my hand off and I could see all my tendons, the first thing I did was wiggle my fingers and let out a sigh of relief when they all worked.

Wow  you were on your way to degloving your hand Acid!!!

You should have seen it when it was peeled open.

Luckily I don't play guitar with the back of my hand,I'm quite sure you had the worse injury from a guitar playing standpoint.
no no ..... yours was worse from any standpoint.

First song a gig many moons ago I stepped right in line of a flashpot shooting flames about five feet straight up along the headstock to 5-7th fret(s). Melted strings, and those that didn't melt went limp. Luckily the rest of the guitar went for the most part unscathed. Not so much my hand.

Changed strings as quick as possible. Meanwhile my fingers turned white with huge 1" high blisters on the backs of my fingers. Once my strings were changed we continued the show. As long as I was playing I was for the most part okay. In between songs and between sets and it 'bout killed me.

It was a Thursday night gig, with gigs at separate venues Fri and Sat. I was careful not to break the blisters all weekend for fear that the burned areas would scab over and stiffen up.

Although I feel like it was the lightman's fault as much as my own(the flashpots were scheduled to be setoff at that particular moment, but fuck all, he could see me standing in the line of fire ) , I was damn careful in the future to stand well clear of those damn flashpots at all times.

ah man ..... that sucks.
After hearing that story and Acids' I no longer consider my po wittle finger injured at all!
I've got one more gig tonight and then I'm off for a couple days. 7 gigs in a row after cutting it but last night, all of a sudden, it quit hurting.

But, like I said, It's freaking nothing compared to Acid and Doobie so pardon me for even mentioning it!

:laughings:

Broke my left collar bone once in a motorcycle accident couldn't play at all for about three weeks!

The tar burns hurt just as much and they were everywhere!

Nothing about that says "good times"

I've had all kinds of ouchies over the years and I can tell you that ten stiches on your arm is not as bad as a cut on your fingertip.Your fingers are just like your eyes or ears from a sense standpoint, plus you just can't help but touch stuff with them unless you get your hand wrapped up like a club.

This seems like this thread could move into a description of fun/painful personal experiences.

My self inflicted favorite:

My basement started flooding once during a series of hard rains. The sump pump float was not activating the pump. I reached into the tank to free the valve and my hand locked to the pump. I can only guess it was 20 seconds or so as I could not release my hand as I was pulling at the cord, with my free arm, that was plugged into an outlet 7' above me on the wall. Once I was free, the pump took a 30' voyage across the basement. The pump was replaced along with a GFI outlet the next day. I have a mark on my arm that resembles one of those Tribbles from Star Trek. I will never stick my arm in a water hole with an electrically connected cable. I also have learned from this thread to never feed cats. :D

OK then ..... an other basement story.
We had a small amount of water in the basement and not enough to even be worried so I just put a large METAL BLADE fan blowing on it to dry out the floor some.
After a few hours that part was dry so I put my hands on both sides of the semi protective grill to reposition the fan when Bang the fan stopped dead in it's tracks do to the end of my left pointer finger had slipped into the blade!
Busted wide open to the bone and split the nail down to the cuticle! I did the pee pee dance for a few minutes then did the home first aid wrapping to stop the bleeding.

Never went to the hospital. The finger healed well but to this day the nail can only get so long and the split starts again.

I seen people cut off their hands and lose eyes in workshop cock ups so you lot don't impress I'm afraid..

Lt boob, hows the superglue solution going?

I've seen fingers on the bench before looks a little surreal!

Lt boob, hows the superglue solution going?
it worked ok. The superglue has hard edges that want to catch on the strings and pull up. But then I started covering the superglue with some NuSkin that kinda feathered out at the edges and made a fleshier feeling surface.

But the finger actually hurt enough that I did 3 gigs mostly not using that finger at all. Actually a pretty interesting challenge in itself.

It a LOT better today and now I have 3 days before the next gig so I'm golden.
