the pigeon knows the way.
Total improvement over the last one!

Old --> OLD - Da Cat
New --> NEW - Da Cat

What do you all think?

Please note that I don't have any monitors.. I just use these regular computer speakers to mix.. so I'm pretty sure it won't be perfect.. as far as that goes. I didn't check it on any other sources either (CD player, car stereo, etc.).

Given your monnitors this is near purrfect.
The meows are nice too.

Nice pun.

Took me a while to get the cat to cooperate.. and meow.
Had to trap him under a laundry basket for 10 minutes.
Also turned the gain on my pre all the way up to get reasonable levels on em.

Thanks for replying Rayc. Nice to have some input.

Maybe lower the bass gtr level a little. Vocals, gtr and cat sound good.

More cat solo please.

What was the signal chain and mic placement used on the cat? I can never get a good cat sound.

Yeah, I thought the bass gtr was a little hot, as well. I'll edit that.

More cat solo? :D

Are you serious? Or is there sarcasm here? I wouldn't have guessed that many other people have spent time trying to record cats. Heh.
Anyway, to answer your question, I actually used an M-Audio AuddioBuddy preamp and an SM57. Pretty advanced signal chain, isn't it?

I'm serious about more cat soloing. Sounded good. A little every 4 bars or so would be great if the bits were always different.

No I wasn't serious about the signal chain - just joking.

More cat was what I was thinking, too.. but I don't have too many more recorded meows to work with. I'll see, though.

Great Song Austin08 - love the lyrics. We just got a cat last year and it's been ..... interesting....

The mix is pretty nice - the extra bass guitar is probably due to the monitors you're using. Just try and compensate and you'll do fine until you get something better.

I hope no cats were harmed in the making of this tune..... lol

Cool tune - meow...

:) :D :) :D

Thanks for the kind words. Yeah, no cats were harmed, just maybe annoyed a little. :)

Here's the updated version - Da Cat (192kbps)

Haha, cool tune. It's always fun throwing pets into a sound. I have a few tracks where I got my dog to growl into the mic :D
Especially like piano sound here. Everything sounds good but I agree about the bass. On my system it's overwhelming. I'd recommend compressing it and low cutting it under about 40-80Hz. Or maybe just lower the volume... Cool tune MEOW

i wanted to add this to the HR STATION thingy that i been adding to....but your not on soundclick:(

great tune! nice work with the mixing via pc speakers!

if ya get on soundclick pm me so i can add it!

Hey, are you referring to the version in the post right above yours, or the one at the very start of the thread?

Let me know! thanks :)

About the piano.. I just got me my first "decent" keyboard.. it's the M-Audio Prokeys 88sx semi-weighted 'stage piano'.. I love it.

I'll see what I can do about that bass.. unless the latest version is good enough.

Oh didn't see that... checking it out now... definitely an improvement ;) The volume is sounding good now, maybe still look into the low cut, sounds like there's still some rumble in there on my system anyway. Cool tune

Ok, I'll see if I can figure out that low cut..

Usually if I do a low cut I just hit the preset that says low cut.. Anyway.. I'll mess with it.

Cool, yeah for some reason my ears are pretty sensitive to those low rumbles, especially in my truck system... anyway a free way I like to do my mixes if they bother me are by downloading goldwave (www.goldwave.com) it's free, and under the "filter" menu there's an option for low/high cut where you can actualy adjust the frequency and hear what you're cutting... sometimmes I'll do it to the bass track or just an entire mix usually somewhere between 40-80Hz...

Eh, I figured it out.

Here it is:

And it's on my soundclick now.

cool song austinm08. i KNEW the SM57 is the best mic for cat vocals!

austinm08,
I have to admit to preferring the 1st version on this thread. The latest, on Soundclick, is slick & very good but I prefer the simplicity & niavity of the 1st up.
I found myself wondering why you CATegorized it under CR. It's a nice ditty of a cat's eye view of the householdinterior world. It's now become complicated - context, subtext, compulsory text, parable, malleable, pallitable, misconstruable - by a label.
Ah, but back to the topic in paw/claw: cute song, well recorded, nicely mixed!
