My D80 sounds like it's skipping or something! Funny thing is, after I leave it alone for a few hours and turn it back on again it works fine... for about half an hour. Then playback and recording don't work correctly. I know the D80 is an old machine (a decade), and I got mine second hand. I'm thinking it could be the hard drive. Another funny thing is it's only happening on ONE of the programs/songs I recorded. Do I need to scrap the D80? Has it had it? Or is this an easy fix, and I just need to bring to a repairperson? Or should I just replace the harddrive? Input would be greatly appreciated!

It sounds like it is the HD, but you may not need to replace it. The fact that it's only happening on one program suggests that it may be corrupted files or filesystem, (or maybe just that the drive is near full?). Try re-formatting it and see if that helps.
In any case a new drive shouldn't be that difficult to source.

Generally speaking, the "D series" recorders are rock-solid in their operation and performance, of course there will be the exceptions but they are just that........exceptions.

It really sounds like a drive problem, consequently, for the cost of a hard drive, I would suggest you buy a new one, install and format it and see what happens. The Fostex site used to have a list of drives that were suitable for the "D series", (personally, I won't use anything other than Seagate drives),
also depending on the software version in your D80, you will probably find that it may only recognise a portion of the available m/bytes on the new drive.
