ok, so the line 6 pod is out of my price range, so we'll forget about that, anyone use effects pedals for di recording, or even on of those zoom boxes? are these things designed specifically for an amplified sound or would they do just as good direct??

thanks for comments in advance :)

I'm using the J-Station.... very nice for guitar and bass also..

Doc, do you have a bass amp with a line level output? If so, that would work reall nice.

The Sans Amp Bass Driver is fairly cheap at $180 and sounds pretty good. Check it out!

I've heard the Countryman DI many times and as a direct it rules going into a decent compressor and into the board. I suppose it depends on how you like your pre though. I think the Bassdriver is more of a DI/pre. maybe that would be better suited in an all around type situation.

Those would be my two choices, I think.

Heylow is right, although I don't think they market it as a pre, it pretty much is. My only problem with the Bass Driver is that it was a little noisy when I demo-ed it in the store. It could have been the setup I was playing it through though. Other than that, it sounded good to me.

I ended up with the Bass Pod though.:D

its more the effects i'm after, i've been thinking of getting one of those zooom multi effects pedals, but i like the idea of amp modeling thats offered in the pod... its not so much that i am after a good clean di, i just want a heep of variations, thanks for the help so far though

I have the Zoom 507 II,

It has some good effects but I have only used it live and goofing around. For my recordings so far I have focussed on getting a good clean fat full sounding bass wich has not been easy on a cassette four track. I finally found it using a Bass Driver DI into the Tube Pac and then to tape.

The Zoom is supposed to have some amp simulation output for recording but it took so long to get the sound I wanted I have not messed with Zoom for recording yet.

Once again i have to say the J-Station...it has just as good amp models as the pod, though it has fewer (6 i think)....also the effects on it are WAY better than the pod and are way more flexible.....

you are looking for a unit to go direct and need effects and the answer is $149 away......J-Station.....
