CX8 and XT20 Adats

Can someone help, Question...? I have a single unit, the Fostex CX8. I'm trying to play tape 1 of 3 that was recorded on the Alesis xt20 that was sync'ed with 2 other machines all xt20's. When I play tape 1 from the master xt20 in the cx8 it runs for 3-5 seconds and locks up. Is it trying to see the other 2 tapes some how and this causes it to freeze?

Tapes formatted for Type II 20-bit ADATs are not likely going to be compatible with the 16-bit Type I ADAT Fostex unit....
