If anyone out there knows how to rectify the problem I'm having, please reply. I have an Olympus (Radio Shack) MIDI keyboard running through a MIDIMAN 4x4 into my iMac. I'm running Cubase VST32 and Reason 2.0. The in and out lights in Cubase light up on the transport when I play the keyboard, the notes get recorded in the sequencer but I can't hear any sound. I've tried different configurations in the setup menu to no avail. When I run Reason alone I'm able to hear the keyboard and playback works as well. When I run Reason through ReWire with Cubase I can no longer hear any MIDI in Reason. Please help.
Hopeful and grateful music maniac.

I've been having a similar problem.
I think it has to do with Cubase and Reason causing MIDI to conflict.
would you rather use MIDI in Reason or Cubase?

I make beats in Reason (use MIDI), but I would like to have the opportunity to make adjustments to individual MIDI parts in Cubase, there's a lot more versatility there, it could be polished using the multitude of VSTs and so on. How did you resolve this issue, even though it seems to me from your reply that you've worked out some sort of a compromise. Also, I don't know if I made it clear but I can't get sounds out of MIDI in Cubase even when Reason is not running. I can import the Reason MIDI files into Cubase just fine, but once i hit play in Cubase it's dead silence, even though the voltmeter is jumping. Also it would be nice to be able to add little MIDI touches in Cubase to the Reason track without having to go back to Reason. But that's my little dream. I'm not going to give up on trying to figure this out, if you have any suggestions or ideas write me here, I'll do the same if I make any progress. I had just reinstalled Cubase supplied OMS, something someone on another forum suggested. Supposedly that Opcode OMS is not Cubase ready...something to that effect. You can cross that solution off the list.

well...I've never tried Cubase's MIDI, but if you like it better than Reason's then try saving a MIDI file on Cubase (after you get it the way you like it) and import it into Reason (I think the "File" menu has that option in Reason).
I've just fine-tuned my Windows XP Pro so that my whoe system works as a dedicated Audio station, and it's running smoother than ever.
If you want to try that out you can go to this link and read the tips :

(it envolves changing options deep inside the Windows Administrator menus, so be sure you know what to do...)

What kind of music do you make ??

Saving MIDI in Cubase is not an option since there lies my problem. I can't hear any MIDI sounds in it. Thanks for the thought though. I'll keep changing things and hope for a miracle. Meanwhile I'm still making beats in Reason, importing them into Cubase for recording vocals. I make hip-hop music in my native language which is Polish. I don't know if you're aware, but hh music is no longer the sole domain of english speakers. In Poland currently, hh is one of the most popular music genres and has been for over a decade now. I live in NY, we have Polish neighborhoods here and a little hh community of our own. We do concerts in Polish clubs, NY and Chicago based artists mostly, as well as well known groups from Poland which come to visit. Everyone's got their little thing, you know :) . What do you dabble in musically?

Another thing, I have a Macintosh, so the Windows would be a little difficult to pull off, hehe.
