Hi,

Can anyone help me out with a big problem i'm having with
my cubase installation ?
I can't get it to make a noise, not even the click track.
I have had it working in the past but uninstalled it for some
reason and now can't get it to work again.
Any ideas welcome.

Thanks
Froz

Audio setup

Under the audio setup, is the option "enable audio" chosen?

I have version 5.0 and alot of people seem to look over that sometimes, i'm not sure if the same options apply to v3.7, but it's worth a try?

I think I have tried most of the obvious options within the programme and if asked to guess, I would think the problem was something to do with my sound card setup ?
In my original post I said that I couldn't get any sound at all, since then I have discovered that if I check the 'AUDIO' box in the
metronome setup I do get a metronome beep. Would this indicate a problem with the MIDI setup ???

Any suggestions are welcome, no matter how obvious they may seem.
This is starting to piss me off now, I have already spent about 15 hours tring to sort it out but don't seem to be getting very far with my limited computer knowledge.

Thanks again
Froz.

41 VIEWS AND NO ONE CAN BE BOTHERED HELPING !

YOU DON'T GET THIS IN THE GUITAR FORUM !

Don't get frustrated with us, man. Jesus, there's nothing worse than someone taking his problems out on people he's asking to help him. Here's a hint: you have no right to complain about the service around here since the advice is free.

Anyway, I'll try to help if I can because I don't want you to come unglued anymore.

What sound card do you have? I would recommend that you look at its settings to determine if you are actually routing signal to Cubase. You probably aren't. That should be fairly simple to do, but I'd like to know what card you have.

CMiller,

Sorry it came across the wrong way mate, it was meant to be a fairly tongue in cheek comment designed to get some attention.
I'm not the uptight, impatient asshole that you suspect I am, I
just couldnt think of a better way to kick start what was going to
become a dead thread.

My sound card is a Sound Blaster ( not sure of the model, I'll have to check tonight when I get in from work )

Speak to you later
Sorry again

Sorry I didn't get back to you on this...I was busy at home last night. As soon as I get a chance, maybe tonight, I'll give you a little more info on what I think the problem is. Look at your software mixer for your sound card and make sure your line input is selected. Also, this is kind of obvious, but make sure you're sending it into the right plug on the card!

Sorry I never got back to you,
Been away for a few days. I am out tonight also, so it will probably be the weekend before I can get the info you asked me for.
Please bear with me, I'll get there eventually

No sweat, Froz. We're all pretty busy, just get back to me when you get a chance and we'll figure this thing out for you.

Hello agaain,

I'm back on track, ...been a bit tied up with all the Christmas goings on, parties, getting christmas trees etc.

Anyway lets cut to the chase,

I finally found out what sound card I am running, it's a Sound Blaster PCI 64V.
In Device manager I have 3 Sound, Video and Game controllers, they are as follows : SB Audio PCI 64V Legacy Device, Sound Blaster Audio PCI 64V, Wave Device for Voice Modem.
I don't know if any of this helps but I hope it does.

Thanks in advance
Froz.

No man, I'm not offended. I'm just busy. I've had finals all last week and this week I've been catching up on all the other shit I do.

So where were we? Did you check out your software mixing section?

It should look something like the picture I attached.

It might look a little different, but that's okay. Anyway, make sure that you have the right input selected in the "record" column. Let me know what you come up with.

Good to hear from you again,

Checked out my mixer as you suggested. The input was on CD, so I changed it to Aux and still no sounds !
I wondered if the problem could be to do with my ASIO setup ?
Any more ideas ?

I've had finals all last week and this week

Finals for ?
In your biog you state your Occupation as : musician .
I don't follow !

Thanks for the help so far, keep 'em comming

Cheers and Happy Christmas

Hey Froz.

Try putting the mixer on "mic" to see if that's were you're hooked up. Notice that I have "wave" selected in the "voice" column on the far right of the mixer.

If this doesn't work, we'll think of something. I suppose it could be an ASIO thing. I'm not sure. I really don't know if the Soundblaster supports ASIO or not. I don't think mine does, so I'm obviously not familiar with it. But that is another problem we might not even have to concern ourselves with.

Anyway, try that and get back to me.

Yeah, I'm going back to school to get my degree in Political Science/Public Administration. I haven't updated my Bio in a while.

If I don't talk to you beforehand, have a merry Xmas and/or happy New Year.

WE HAVE LIFT OFF !

Woooo---hooooo,

Finaly got the thing working. I had my channel outputs going
to MIDI out, when I switched them to MIDI sy everything started to work just fine.
My mixer is slightly different to yours, I don't have the voice collumn. will there be another way to make this cnnection ? or is it irrelevant (sp) ?

I must still have something setup wrong because on opening the programme all the outputs are set to MIDI out and I have to change each one manually. I know this should be a simple fix but I haven't a clue where to look. any suggestions ?

Anyway I can have a play about now and make a bit of noise
so that's got to be progress !
Thanks again for the help and if I don't catch you before
have a most splendid yuletide and fullfilling 2002.

All the best
FROZ
:) :D  :D :)

:D

Good...now go have fun! We'd like to hear something damn it!

Glad to hear you've got it running again. That's the thing with DAWs, they just aren't as easy to get running as a recorder.

Have a good one Froz!

Mark
