ok. im a casual recorder, but i have used cubase sx for years now and have always thought that it was great. however, recently i cant even record with it and ive been getting the following error messages:

right away when i open the 24 track audio recorder i get this:
"an unknown problem has uccorred while opening the editor"

then, when i go to change vst inputs or anything else:
"a serious problem has occurred: please try to save your song under another name and then restart cubasesx.exe. if this problem persists please contact steinberg technical support with a description of what you do to create this problem, and the created file C:/programa Files/Steinberg/Cubase SX/Cubasesx.LOG.

i cant find Cubasesx.LOG (not that i would know what to do with it anyways). ive tried using system restore, but it wont work. it seems like everything was running fine until i installed a driver for my midi keyboard.

i really dont want to fork over the money for another recording program. so...please help if able.

I'm a cubase SX user--but on a Mac, though I use a PC at work. Some thoughts:

Have you tried uninstalling the midi keyboard driver? If that's the issue, and the uninstall script for the driver is thorough, it seems like it should work.

If that doesn't fix it, my next step would be uninstalling & reinstalling cubase (as long you have the original media to install). And if you do reinstall cubase, I'd try it without the midi driver. If it works, and you feel like gambling, throw the driver back on. If that hangs things up, at least you'll know for sure what the problem is.

Good luck!

thanks for your help. i was able to use system restore and it works now. now its a matter of re-installing the driver.

Good luck with that. I guess now you'll find out for sure if that's what caused the problem to begin with.

Have you tried contacting steinberg technical support?

When I first installed and updated Cubase SX3, I used to get that message. It turned out that it was because the dongle's security software that came with the latest update was junk. If the problem persists, try going to synchrosoft's website updating to the latest version of of the software.

Yes, that can happen. And it's also good to join the cubase.net forum where you can get lots of help.
