cubase/triton recording questions...

please don't respond if your only advice is to get more equipment. I already know this...

Here's my setup (its very basic):
Korg Triton Le to computer soundcard to Cubase via Midi

I am then recording directly onto a cd burner. The sound coming from the triton (through headphones) is perfect. Effect levels are correct, EQing is correct, and individual track levels are correct (correct meaning: how i want it to sound--full, heavy, thick, etc.)

When I record onto CDR the levels are low, and I can't seem to get them raised without distorting the track.

Any advice/tips? I assume adding something like a sonic maximizer would help, but I'm trying not to blow a bunch of cash on stuff I don't need.

What about running the Korg through a mixing board and then into the CDBurner?

All the sudden I feel like I know a whole lot of nothing...

I'm not too familiar with standalone CD burners, but it sounds as though you're having a basic leveling problem. Either the Triton isn't putting out enough signal for the burner (which is doubtful), or the burner's input level (assuming it has one) needs to be raised. If the signal still isn't hot enough, and the input level on the burner is cranked, then a cheap mixer should do just fine.

My guess is that it's either 1) a bad cable or 2) input level of the CD burner.
