I've been using Cubase SX for awhile now, and have learned how to use it pretty well. But today I was given a copy of Cool Edit Pro, and told that it was much better than SX. Just looking for some opinions. Does cool edit offer more than cubase sx? Is it worth learning? Thanks.

i'm not a frequent user of cubase but i believe the two are definately different in their functinality. Cubase has midi/sequencing abilites whereas cool edit is strictly for audio recording. I like cool edit because it is very easy and straight forward to sue whereas cubase, like cakewalk, has a lot of menues and windoes and whatnot. I would say that cubase has quite a few more features. correct me if i'm wrong.

Hmmm..I thought the latest version of CEP had MIDI (could be just play back)..Dunno I could well be wrong.
However, I did try the CEP (just quickly though, that's why I can't remember what exactly was the deal with midi) and I really liked couple of reverb fx and the eq capabilities.

CEP is now known as Adobe Audition. As for your questioning of it being better... I say no. It is not near as powerful as Cubase SX. I have been using Cool Edit Pro for over a year but am just getting into Cubase SX. And I don't plan on going back. One thing I will say about CEP is that it is the most user friendly program. You can learn it pretty quickly. If I were you, I would install it and mess around in it for a while. Its very easy to use and you can learn the program in a few hours. I say learn how to use it just in case. It never hurts to be able to say you know how to use it :) Its a great program and its a great deal cheaper than Cubase SX. If you try it out, I doubt you will switch to CEP, but I think you will like the program none the less.

although not as powerful as other programs, cool edit has its place in my setup. I found a cool program that lets me add cool edit to Sonar's menu . This lets me use cool edit within sonar as a wave editor. I like this because cool edit is easy to use and is a good wave editor.

Yea, the waveform editing in cool edit is actually quite good and incredibly easy to use.

I started recording wit CEP bout 6 months ago.....

I now call it Cool Edit Pro Tools....

hahaa.....man I love this program...

Everyday I try a new effect out and learn how I could use it creatively in a mix...

check out my thread in the MP3 mixing clinic if curious....

1 love to Peter Quistgard...
