My IT tech says that because it hangs up in the same spot each time it's an XP security issue. He said the software is asking XP to access something that you don't have permissions to use. He suggested to check and make sure that you have all the administrative rights set on xp.

Can you elaborate on the adminastrative rights? Im not sure what I should be looking for or where to look to change this. Thanks for the info

Im running XP SP2 and I had no problems on my install, you need to go to the control panel click on user accounts this will tell you if you have full administrators rights up under your log in name if not click properties, group memberships and you can change it there...... I hope that helps....

It says "Computer Adminastrator" under my account. I am the only account on this cpu besides the "guest".

Did you ever get this thing going? Besides contacting Steinberg you might want to inquire with microsoft xp support.

No luck at all. I guess im going to be sticking with audition for now. Maybe at some point Steinberg will address the issue once they have enough people complaining on the forum. I searched for an email to ask them about the demo but im not seeing anything like that either. Maybe I overlooked it? Thanks to everyone who attempted to help.

Just wanted to let you guys know that I finally managed to get the demo running. I have no idea what went differently this time but one of the many things I did got me going.

-Used RedEdit to remove all Steinberg folders from previous bad installs
-updated soundcard drivers
-made sure all windows updates were installed
-booted into safemode under Admin Account
-Disabled all firewalls

and it finally installed. Weird huh? Oh well im up and running now and can finally decide if this is the software for me or not. Thanks for all the help.

Hey, that's great stuff! Let the games begin :)

Its unfortunate that I can't post on the www.cubase.net forum to give the other people who are having this issue some ideas on what may have worked for me.

I posted the info there for you, I hope it helps someone else:)
