Cubase Support?

I have been working with another guitarist who uses Cubase SX and I am seriously considering making the switch from Adobe Audition to Cubase. With that said, my friend let me borrow his copy to try it out on my system. I wanted to do a side by side comparison. This is a legit copy and for some reason it will not install on my windows Xp system. Everytime it gets to the Fonts installation it hangs up on "skipping Stein Font" something or another. Having read through all of the "installation problem" forum at www.cubase.net I have found that I am not the only person who experiencing this error. I have been checking the forum for the last month and I posted about it on here a while back but have had absolutely no luck.
Does anyone know of any other forums where I might be able to find a solution for this problem? It seems like a great software and I am ready to drop the cash for the latest version but if it won't install on my system and Steinberg isn't worried about helping the other users stranded with the same issue, then im not so sure I want to give them my hard earned money.

You obviously didn't read my post. I am not trying to steal or pirate a copy of Steinberg software. I was going to demo it out on my system, luckily I found out before buying that its not going to install.

Tried the procedure outlined and it didn't help. Still having the same problem. Thanks anways though.

Hi ~ If there is one thing you learn about this Forum, talking about or referring to anything related to using software that you did not pay for is a bigtime no no no on this site. I, like so many others dug deep into my pocket and shelled out the cash for the Package. If I have a problem with installation, I call Steinberg and they help me out. So far, I've only had to call them once. Regarding usage that my manual doesn't clearly break it down for me, I found this site to be awesomely helpful. The people here are on the money and have gotten me through a lot of frustrating problems.

For some reason the tech support dept at Steinberg seem to give me the impression that they have never had any of the situations that I've run into so I don't call them anymore and also the wait on hold is just rediculous.

Don't go asking people to help you with somethig you didn't pay for. You should ask your friend that gave it to you for that.

Wireneck - There is a demo available for Cubase SX 1 that you can download at ftp://ftp.steinberg.net/Download/Cubase_SX_1/Demo/Pc/setup_cubase_sx_102_demo.exe

I know it's not the latest and greatest version but at least if the install works, it will give you something to compare with AA.

BTW I have AA and Cubase SX 2. To me SX 2 is the clear winner for recording and mixing..

Yeah, I didn't know what his situation was completely so I certainly wasn't going to give him big balls .. but from what I have seen related to software that may have been pirated, this is not the place to talk about it.

Im not going to start anything but this is ridiculous. I originally tried the demo (thanks vestast) and have had the same exact problem with it. Im not attempting to steal or rip off anyone. I own and have paid for thousands of dollars worth of gear including software. I fully intend to PURCHASE this software if I can ever get it to play nice with my system.

So your advice is that I shell out the cash for the software, then bring it home and install it (wait it doesn't work with my system), then make a post on steinbergs support forum (where they don't respond to this problem, despite the fact that many paying users are stranded). After that doesn't work, I should contact them by phone (where according to you) they make me wait forever and then act like its my problem. Then after all else fails I should attempt to return OPENED software (like thats going to happen).
I don't normally get confrontational on this forum but your post was not helpful and the work of a true dick.

Yeah Bonz you need to leave wireneck alone dont you see that he has been part of this community since 2002...... better start paying attention to those things before you get up at arms and make an accusation like you did... You could get flamed or hit with neg rep...
 
I completely understand where Bonz is coming from but I think if he re-read my original post then we wouldn't be having this conversation. Hopefully no negative rep points will go flying for this. I just want to get to the bottom of this installation issue.

Another thing that I've noticed is that small things get blown up into big things for absolutely no reason. I wasn't attacking this person but I have read the threads where people have really come down on a person for even mentioning the word free software. So I was basically telling him to be careful. I didn't even bother to check to see if this person was old or new because it doesn't matter. Now if any of you think that you need to keep this going be my guess but I'm not going to be a part of it .. (PERIOD)

It's not about "keeping it going" I didnt give you any neg rep and I feel that I didnt flame you but if you would have carfully read his post then you might not have said what you said!

now you said you tried the demo. Have you contacted customer support? most companies offer support for demos.
 
Altiris- im going to make an attempt to contact them and see if they respond. I was under the impression that the www.cubase.net forum was there official support place?
 
If i was you, i'd reformat my HD and try again.

If its not a big problem i asume...

I did read your post and didn't figure you were trying to steal or pirate a copy. I just figured buying it straight out will save you aggravation which you're obviously having. When you go to buy it, they list the system requirements. If you meet the requirements then I don't see the problem. If it didn't work then there is probably something wrong with your system.

Anyhow, I did a search for you and came up with hopefully something that will help.

Here is something Christian Dettner wrote there a while ago when the question came up:

"Before starting to try the installation again, go to >Start >Control Panels >Fonts.
Select all Fonts and choose >View >Refresh

After that, please try the installation again.

If this does not help do this:

Download both files from this FTP folder:

ftp://ftp.pinnaclesys.com/Steinberg/download/Downloads_PC/Tools/Wrong_Score_Fonts_Fix/

Unzip the files, drag the one with the score-font-files in the Fonts folder (Control Panel). After that doubleclick on the extracted file with extension ".reg" and let Window add the information to the registry. Make a reboot and now try the Cubase SX installation again."

Followed the steps previously outlined (i.e. Registry changes and manual installation fonts)... once I remembered to re-boot everything finally installed. <whew>

Cubase SE
Windows XP SP2

Nymorningstar my post was not aimed at you. Sorry for the confusion. The procedure listed is the same thing Markaholic linked to at the beginning. This did not work for me. Im not taking the attitude that its something wrong with cubase but it is a little weird that there are at least a handful of users having the same problem. As far as I can see, that one poster (who said the manual font installation helped) was the only one it worked for.
 
It's sounding like a windows xp problem. Have you tried installing it in safe mode? I'll ask in our IT dept today.
 
Thanks Nymorningstar. I've tried it in safe mode and it still didn't work. I am almost certain that everyone with this problem is running Xp. The weird thing is that it happens with many different versions of cubase. This is the only program I have ever encountered that my system would not run, go figure. I may try and call steinberg technical support today in regards to the demo not working.
