Hello,

My soundcard came with Cubasis VST 4. This program seems pretty weak.
I've yet to fully explore it, but my question is this:

Is the full retail version of Cubase much better?

I'm still looking to buy the ALESIS US 428, that comes bundled with Cubasis VST US-428. I fear this will be similar to the Cubasis VST 4.

[EDIT] I'm currently using Vegas, Acid, and SoundForge. I've heard using the ASIO drivers I can control Acid and Vegas...Is this true? I would prefer to stay with programs I'm accustomed to, also Cubase is not cheap.

I have the version of Cubasis VST that came with the Tascam US-122. It is a stinking pile of dung. Very limiting and hard to use. I bought Cubase SE, and find it much more intuitive and definitely has more features. Obviously, SL and SX have more bells and whistles. However, if you're comfortable with what you are using now, why get Cubase?

I sorta thought it was the best to use with the US 428. I'd prefer to use my current programs, but I am unsure as to there compatability.

Cubasis is very old and I agree with you - I found it hard to use. Cubase SE is great, also there are lots of lower cost sequencers like n-Track (for which there is a forum here) worth looking at if you don't want to spend the $100 or so that SE costs.

If you do your research you'll see that you can't really get much better than Cubase SX3...but it's gotta be that version, the others all lack and aren't worth the big ticket price.

I've heard of several people sticking with vegas rather than upgrading to the full version of Cubase and it seems to work very well for them. I recommend sticking with what you have for now.
