Hello. This is my first post and thread on this forum. So far I'm liking it :) .

But now to the point....

I'm going to purchase Cubase SE right after I build my computer for recording. What are the advantages to this software?...what do people like? Who uses it here? What are its best qualities? I'm just wondering what other people have to say before I buy it.

Thank you!

Cubase is a solid, easy to use, and inexpensive multitrack program. It has many of the same features as Cubase SX (minus a few effects and complex audio editing), but at a fraction of the price. I think it's a good program for just starting out in computer-based recording and you won't likely outgrow it quickly.

What exactly is meant by "complex audio editing"? Of course you can still cut & paste, fade, pan, eq, etc.... correct? What's missing?

I've found SE very easy to use now I've had some practice at it (and overcome a couple small technical issues), it's definitely a good "Most Bang For The Buck" package! 48-tracks of audio and unlimited MIDI is hard to sneeze at for $99.

FL Studio 5

I have been using Reason for quite some time but decided I needed and wanted a program that could record audio and use VST plugins..(reason does neither) so i, like you, was about to get Cubase SE until I came across the demo for FL Studio 5...I have been using the demo over a week now and have been blown away by this program!, FL studio might have a bad rep because it started out as fruity loops which was a fairly basic program but has now evolved into a complete studio, with midi, audio, VST and all the little tools you can think of.....granted fruity loops was a program aimed at the electronic end of the music market but not so with FL Studio...Considering the price of FL Studio 5 (Producer Edition) as compared to Cubase SE or Reason i think it would be well worth looking into... I think the downloadable version (is about 150 US dollars whereas the boxed version is about 200 dollars)...Myself, in about 2 months i will buy the FL Studio 5 XXL edition which is the Top program plus 5 additional VST synths plus 2GB of samples) all for 300 US dollars if I download it (which i will) not to mention that you get FREE updates to your software for years to come!
By the way I am familiar with Cubase SX and although i have no problem with the technical end of things, I feel that sometimes the technicalities of using Cubase can get in the way of the creative flow of things...Whereas i have found FL Studio much more fun to use not to mention it sounds great... :p
