Hi,

I just got a Yamaha i88x and started using Cubase SX. How could I use one of the VST effects on my guitar input to hear it while I am playing in real-time? Also, while I am on the topic, how could I record with an effect on my input in real-time while playing previously recorded tracks in my monitor from Cubase? Would I have to worry about latency issues? Thanks

Latency will be the greatest problem here.

for playing live:

turn your ASIO buffer all the way down to the lowest setting available. Set your input channel to whatever channel your preamp is plugged into, set the out to whatever your monitors are plugged into. Turn monitoring on, and select the plugin you want to use from the inserts list. turn OFF the PDC (plugin delay compensation)

how could I record with an effect on my input in real-time while playing previously recorded tracks in my monitor from Cubase?

You dont need to record the effect per say. Just record the dry signal with a plugin active so you will hear the effected signal but will be recording dry. That way, you can always go back and tweak the plugin parameters if you need to adjust anything and still have the dry recording intact. You will want to turn the PDC back on after you actually record the audio. Cubase will only record the tracks that are armed so you can play back what ever tracks you want to play along with. If you are micing your cabinet you will want a headphone mix otherwise if you are just using a pre to interface with the i88, you can just play back everything over the monitors when recording
