Cubase moves my recorded Tracks

Hi everyone !

I have been having a problem with Cubse sx3 . I am sure it's not really a problem and I am just being retarded but any help would be greatly appreciated .

Say I want to record a Guitar layer . I have the song playing in record mode with record enabled on the track I want to use . I play the sound in sync with the song ( to a click track ) . Then when I hit stop Cubase has put the sample at a seemingly random spot on the timeline ( sometimes there are 2 different clips ) . I realise Cubase does multiple takes but why are they all out of sync with the timeline ? I then have to pull the tab on the sample back to reveal the beginning and then have to push it back into the right place . This is extremely irritating !

Obviously I want the sample to sit where I recorded it without having to move it around afterwards .

Sorry if that was a stupid question . Thanks for any advice !

Ok, first of all why are you using an $800 piece of software with a $66 sound card? That really doesn't make a whole lot of sense...
secondly, get a different (read: make for recording) sound card, you'll probably find that your latency problem goes away.

Why does someone always ask this question? Maybe he only had enough money to buy Cubase now. Maybe he'll upgrade his sound card later.

we always ask that question because it doesn't make god damn sense to do it that way. it makes infinitely more sense to record on, say, an m-audio card using audacity (free) then it does to record through a soundblaster card into cubase.

that's why.

Spot On :D

I want to buy a Presonus Firebox as soon as I can afford it . Till then I have to make the best of what I have .

Hi shiatzu ,

I should have been more specific . I am using an Audigy 2 NX USB card . I know its not a great card but I was told it should perform better than this . I don't have much latency problems in any other progs . Do you think it is a setting maybe ?

Thanks !

man, i think you're better off recording live off the floor until you get a dedicated recording soundcard. i had a similar problem a looong time ago (back when my parents would let me buy and install software but i sure as hell wasn't allowed to open up the PC and void the warranty to install a new soundcard  ).. just gotta grin and bear it until you've got your gear working at an acceptable level, i guess. check your latency settings, if you mess around with them for long enough you might find something that works.

I understand what your saying, but, again, maybe he doesn't have the 'cents' to buy better card.
Furthermore, I am in the same boat. I have listened to a lot of HR poster's recordings on Soundclick.com and dMusic.com and I'll be damned if I can hear any difference between my recordings thru an Audigy card and whatever else is being used (soundwise, not counting my lack of talent). Even so, I will be upgrading soon to a 1010LT and if my sound doesn't improve noticibly with it, I will be coming to everyone's house, who asked this question, for a free dinner :D

it's a date. if you don't hear the difference i'll take you back to my place after dinner and show you how to use it.

a woman walks into a bar, orders a "double-entendre", so the bartender gives it to her.

To answer the original question - "SNAP to timeline" might be enabled, or you have a hitpoint or tempo track enabled.... first step is turn off Snapping and see if that fixes it.

What other programs do you have? Maybe we can figure out the difference between those and Cubase.
