Hello. I don't know what hell is going on.

I've just begun learning to use Cubase LE5, my first real DAW.

When I pan the tracks, they still come out of both monitors as if they were centered. But when using headphones I hear them panned correctly as they should be.

I don't know what hell is going on.

First off, describe in detain your system and recording chain. I saw your other post that says you installed a coundcard in your computer. What soundcard?

Oh, and calm down man. We will get this figured out of find a way to make it right. :)

Cool. I'll get back to you about my system and recording chain and stuff.

But let's forget about my other post regarding a soundcard. That was like 11 years ago.

I know. Thought it was interesting to bring up tho. :)

Welcome back. :D

I'm using Windows XP and have a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2. I think my soundcard is Realtek HD Audio, or something like that.

I plug into the first channel on my Scarlett and the line outputs from there go straight to my monitors.

I also have my monitors connected to my computer by the outputs on the back of it.

And here's a few screenshots of how I have my VST connections set up.

Check your signal flow

I'm using Windows XP and have a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2. I think my soundcard is Realtek HD Audio, or something like that.

I plug into the first channel on my Scarlett and the line outputs from there go straight to my monitors.

I also have my monitors connected to my computer by the outputs on the back of it.

I want to make sure I understand this correctly, you have your monitors connected to both the computer AND the Scarlett?

If that is the case, try only connecting the monitors to the line outputs only.

Signal Flow should be: Instrument-Cable-Scarlett-computer-DAW.

From the Scarlett-Monitors

See if that works and get back with us if you are still having trouble

My monitors have 2 input jacks on the back of each of them. One is a 1/4 inch and I connect that one to my Scarlett. The other is an RCA and I connect that to the back of my computer. If I remove the RCA connection to my computer I can't hear any playback.

OK, now I can hear playback without having the RCA connected to my puter.

I'll get back to you about the panning issue if I still have a problem. Thanks for the help, everybody.

Great!

I'm glad that worked. You shouldn't have to plug those RCA's to the computer. The computer will output the signal to your Scarlett and the sound will be transferred to your monitors. I hope that everything else works out and if you have further questions, let us know!

Cheers!

Ok, wait a minute...

First off, you should be having nothing to do with your internal soundcard driver (ASIO Direct x) if you have an interface with appropriate useable drivers and monitors.

First off, download the latest driver that is for your system from this link HERE. If you haven't already.

Install that and make it your default audio device in Windows. XP 'I think I remember' is Control Panel>Sound and audio devices. Select the driver for the 2i2 as the default driver/device for recording and output.

Now, in Cubase:

Devices>Device Setup...>VST Audio System, select the 2i2 ASIO driver from the drop-down menu. Also check that 'Release Driver' box under it so you can access Youtube or whatever audio while Cubase is open.

You should now have everything on your PC running the audio out of the 2i2 and monitors with lower latency than the internal crap thing.

Hope this helps. :)
