Cubase LE Laptop Problems

I'm Having problems with cubase le, alesis Mixer 8usb, and my laptop. I've been recording on my desktop for about a year and never had problems. But with my laptop, everytime i try to record it lets me for a couple of seconds then the sound drops. I know i got everthing wired right, i did it before with my desktop. It's getting Very irritating and i don't know what the problem is someone please help.
 
Ah, great. And I just got one of those today for use with our laptop. I'll be watching to see what happens, I may end up returning mine.
 
Whats your ram?
Are you recording to a seperate drive?
Have you ditched your antivirus and internet connection?
 
I have 1GB of Ram, change the latency did'nt help, internet and antivirus turn off still didn't help, and i'm recording on the same drive

Is the mixer just a stereo out mixer?
 
Hi guys just so happens i also have a MultiMix 8USB Mixer and i have not yet installed the Cubase LE on my laptop yet, however i have heard that it needs alot of processor speed and RAM.
