Cubase ASIO Problem

Hi folks,

I've been running Cubase LE 4 bundled with a Tascam US-1641 for the past five years or so without any problems. Recently the computer that I have been using to run Cubase has started to show some signs of its age (it is still running Vista as the OS).

One of my bandmates had a Vista OS PC laying around and we stripped it down, re-installed the OS and began installing the Cubase software and the Tascam drivers. We believed that by cleaning out this "new" PC and limiting it's use to just recording we would be able to increase our processing speed and relieve some of the problems we were having with our current set-up.

The problem is that this new set-up is having serious ASIO problems making it difficult to even playback audio without skipping and/or dropouts because the ASIO usage meter is jumping all over the place and redlining.

We are thinking that perhaps we need a new soundcard to solve this ASIO problem. Obviously we are trying to get around the new computer/Cubase update route. Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks!

Did you update the LE4 Quick fix and the other update from Steinberg after reinstalling the OS?

And did you also take steps to optimize performance for audio recording?

I did install all of the Tascam and Cubase updates. However they actually seemed to make the problem worse.

What steps would you suggest? We have everything stripped off of the system except for the related programs with the unnecessary things like wireless internet de-activated. We are also running an external hard drive.

maybe just not use that computer. Sometimes computers just cant handle types of software or things like that.

Do THESE steps before throwing in the towel...

Ahhh, thanks for the great link!

I will go through all of these steps this weekend. Thanks again.

Oh, and make sure you do the Cubase LE4 updates in the right order. I don't remember exactly which to do first. I think it was the 4.1.2 update, then the Hotfix. I remember hearing that if you do it in the wrong order, things get totally screwed...

Yep, just checked and I remember having to reinstall it completely. LE4 from the disc. Then 4.1.2 update, then 4.1.3 Hotfix.

You may find that it's your video car driver causing the ASIO spikes. I had the same issue with my Radeon HD5450 drivers, and had to roll back to the 12.1 versions from 2011. Spiking was them much less severe.

Have you made it all compatible with your very own softwares/hardwares/
