I have a flash drive that I saved a cubese file on. When I plug it in and open it with Cubase, the file opens and everything looks like it should but I can't get any sound from it. What gives ? It is audio, not midi, and I mixed it down from the export menu as a .wav file.

Is it audio or midi?

If audio, did you also save the .wav files associated with it where it can find it?

If midi, do you have a midi synth designated?

Your question does not have enough info....

It is audio. I mixed the file down from the export menu and saved it as .wav file

The Cubase file (.cpr) is just bunch of data. The actual sound (audio) is not stored within the .cpr file but in the Audio folder (or other folders). Moving just the cubase file will help you very little, unless you are working with midi and nothing else.

On a side note: even if you did transfer the audio to the flash drive aswell, it is highly likely that you will get playback problems when playing back multiple tracks, because flash drivers are much slower than hard drives.

thanks

'preciate the info. I"m kinda new with home recording software.........

I understand, it's not like it says these things with a big WARNING sign on the box :)

If the .cpr file is just a data file and the actual music is stored in an audio file, how do you grab that audio file as well?

I'm looking to save a track on a flashdrive/memory stick and move the file to another computer. Is that possible?

I do that all the time. You have to move all the files from the 'audio' folder of the track. Make sure to recreate all the files/folders exactly as they are in the track when you move them or you're gonna run into some problems down the road. Larger flash drives are easier. I use a 512mb and it's a pain in the ass due to my file sizes, but it works.

One thing, before you copy to flashdrive make sure you clean up your pool. It can be done by removing unused wavs and empty the trash. Close your session, then go to File -> clean up ... or something like that.
