Cubase 4 !!!

I really need to look into this new version a bit more. At first glance, I'm really not seeing a compelling reason to upgrade as there's no changes/improvements to the underlying audio engine. Maybe I'm oversimplifying things, but it looks like the upgrade gets me new plugins and new vsti's. Of course there's some ease-of-use fixes that are admittedly beneficial, but it's not like I'm uncomfortable working with SX3.

Off my soapbox...

Personally, I don't know. The new plugs look nice, but honestly, that's not what I buy a sequencer for. The new "kore" thing (ear your heart out NI! :p) looks nice. On the other hand, they STILL haven't gotten it in their heads that NOBODY uses the EQ that's build into each track, that it's anoying that you can't change the order of insert FX without unloading them first and a few others.
I'm not convinced yet.

It would be nice if an eq plugin could fill the space of the stock eq.

Supposedly the EQ is completely different now in the stock channel section, and may in fact be very usable.... we shall have to see (or hear) after it finally comes out before we can really make an accurate decision there. Also, the new Cubase 4 will allow copy, paste and swapping of insert FX, so this is a huge advantage.

In addition to these things we get vst3 which offers some cool advantages, and much better user configurations within the Cubase GUI which will also be nice. The new Control room features look like extremely handy and very useful. Something no other program seems to fully offer yet. The new Media Bay also looks pretty cool.

All in all the new improvements look pretty good to me. There are a ton of features that I can already see greatly improving the speed and use of Cubase for my workflow. Add in the new features etc... and it seems like it is more than worth what I have heard the upgrade will be going for.

Perhaps, but the new version looks more like a standard VST EQ now with visual - graphical feedback of the EQ curve.

Inserts will be re-orderable in Cubase 4.

The manual is online at -

Hell i'd buy the upgrade just for that, that's my only beef with cubase and the fact that you dont have as much control over busses like you do in protools

how much will it be to upgrade from SX3?
