Hi,

Im upgrading from Cubase 4 to 5 soon and I thought i'd export all my recordings for back up purposes so I can fully remove 4 before installing 5 but I got a problem:

In Cubase I can view the files the recordings are in, but the files have little gold locks on them. I'm unable to find these files by browsing through windows explorer... I know it has something to do with running as administrator but its frustrating because I cant find these files to back up.

I've tried pretty much everything I can think of...

Help anyone??

Did cubase come with a manual? I only ask because while I don't remember I know there was a section on backing up sessions somewhere in there. I would do that mang.

Also: Just a heads up, when you open a C4 project in C5 you can't open it in 4 anymore.

There is a on button each track with the same lock symbol on it. Either that or the tracks are frozen but I would bet on the former. Check out if you can un-lock them by pressing the lock button.

Cheers :)

Hey thanks for the help

I did see the backing up section in the manual but the problem is, if i back it up - the folder I back it up to also has a gold lock on and cant be found in windows explorer...

Somethings i've noticed:
1: If i run Cubase as administrator and save a project, it doesnt have a gold lock on and can be viewed in windows explorer. From here I can only view the projects saved while in cubase as administrator and not those saved while not in cubase as administrator

2: If i dont run Cubase as administrator and save a project (like I have for past projects), the file has a gold lock on and cant be found in explorer. Here I can view all prjoects saved as administrator and not, so some with gold locks and and some without

A bit confusing, but hope it makes sense

Hey thanks for the help - i cant seem to find the lock icon though.... but I'm pretty sure it has to do with adminstartor permissions.... its annoying the hell out of me!

I'm not sure how to answer, other than "I have never seen, nor heard of such an issue". You do have a legit copy of Cubase right?

yeah its legit - figured it out. Backed up the project to a different location (now no gold locks) and now always run cubase as administrator so when i save it doesnt put a gold lock on the file. fine now
