Everything recorded by my multitrack must be recorded in 44.1 Hz to correctly transfer and be played on disc right?

Now my question is that can all the tracks be recorded at 24 bit and put onto disc as 24 bit or do they need to be 16 bit to work on cd players?

And I have heard that some people record at 24 bit and then mix down to 16 bit. If this is the way to go, does this help?

you can record and mix and master and all that at ANY bitrate (16,20,24) or sampling rate (44.1,48,88.2,96) that your recording system will allow.......

for it to play on regular CD players it has to be brought down to 16 bit 44.1........

it is advisable to record at the highest bit rate sampling rate you are capable of and then dithering down at the latest possible step.....

now if you are just saving the data as .wav files it can be any bit rate and sampling rate but wont play on cd players.......

I do understand how to record at a higher bit before the final transfer to disc, but is there also a way to record at a higher sample rate above 44.1 and then move it down to 44.1 later on? My software and soundcard can go up to a 96 sample rate.
