Ok, maybe this isn't an original thread, but who cares! TURN UP THE BASS!

Number 1 hands down for bass playing would be:

Victor Wooten, bands he was in: Bela Fleck & The Flecktones

Number 2

Jaco Pastorius, bands he was in: Weather Report, Joni Mitchel

--I'm trying to find "Victor Wootens" Lp "A Show of Hands" I'm blown away from the stuff I heard off of it.

Mmmmmmm Lets see..Markus Miller or Anthony Jackson or maybe Ron Carter..Can't argue with the previous posters on Clarke or Jaco

there are many that never were popularized by name yet their work has touched many many folks. I was thinking about Willie Weeks, James Jamerson, and Larry Graham the other day, along with Andy West, greg lake and Felix Papalardi. They were monster players too.
I guess the fab mags and posters will always be dominated by those punky guitar players and singers. :)
They can always rest a bar or two and its not a problem. let us quit and its like earth shrinks by the powers of ten.

James Jamerson, was he the guy who wrote the bass riffs to "Micheal Jacksons - Billy Jean", i dont like much of mj's stuff but that song deserves credit.

Props to Toki987 for mentioning Felix Pappalardi, one of the most overlooked bassists in rock history and a fine vocalist and songwriter as well.

Hmm, how 'bout dese guys:

Cliff Burton (Metallica)
Muzz Skillings (Living Colour)

Okay, my PC's doggin' out on me, so I gotta reboot. More later.

Chris Squire

Mars Cowling (Pat Travers Band)

The guy who played for Jethro Tull was awesome too.

Stanley Clarke without a doubt!

I'm in a VWooten trip lately... always dug Pastorius, and to a lesser extent Claypool and Miller, and a little Stanley..

Never liked Stu Hamm or Pattittucci thoug (but P really does some crazy good stuff, but that SOUND ... yikes...)
