copyrights have just jumped from 30 to 45 bucks........

yea, that does suck, but it isnt as bad as this... Massachusetts FID license APPLICATIONS (not necessarily going to get it, and it isnt refunded if you don't get you id) jumped from $15 to $100.... I hate this state. unrelated musically but, just saying....

at least ma. isnt controlling the music industry. If it were, CD's would have a 5% sales tax, 10% Origonal material Tax, 10% silicon usage tax, 5% plastic tax, 10% petrolium usage tax (used in plastic), 15% "we didnt make it, so you have to pay more for it" tax, and a 10% massaschusetts wants more of your money to throw away on the big dig and 15-year 495 road construction (when the f*** is 495 going to be finished? and why is 190 repaved every year) tax. Oh yea, dont forget teh 10% massachusetts turnpike collapsed due to neglegence and you have to pay for it tax.......

i HATE assachusetts

k, I'm done with the pointless rant.

man...there's so much piss to swim in to be a musician.

its just ridiculous. if you're on a label, and you get fixed up with...ascap..bmi...

you pay through the nose. you get 90 cents for a 10 dollar cd??? and you still have to pay freaking thousands for this and that.

i'm glad i'm so obscure and weird, no one would want to copy the music i make and take as their own. and i get $10 every $10 cd i sell...and that 10 bucks still has to go to the record com...oh wait..me!

indie is the only way to go. i'ld rather work like crazy than to sell my music/personality to some record company.

i mean..you don't even own your masters or anything. you don't own your own stinking songs???

CRAZINESS i tell you. just a bunch of suits that want to rape your wallets.

Going the DIY route is the only way to go if you want to actually make a living from music, unless you get really lucky and hit it big, and even then most of the money goes to the record company/label. The best way musicians make money is by live perforances, and even then they have to pay manager fees, sound engineer fees, etc.

I'd rather do it myself then have to hire entertainment lawyers to read over contracts and all that.

The two most important things I'd say, is a manager, and maybe a PR. Having another person represent your band gives off a much better image than a band representing itself.

haha...its funny how, if you want to make real money off of being a musician, you don't get it from music sales, you get it from merch.

and when you flaunt your body. ala britney, jlo, beyonce, 50cent...etc you can make miiiiiiiillions.

i hate the music industry

its all good in love and war.. no thats not right. what was that expression? aww fuck it.

if a record company was gonna pay me "50 cent" style, i'd sell my personality quicker than a 1 dollar hooker would sell her oral skills!!!

no need to front!! u r talkin bout the dif. between gittin a couple of hundred thousand dollars up front - and gittin $50 at one show, 40 at a next . . . come on now. lets be real
