Cover tune thread

I love those vocals. THey sound phat and warm and tapey.

The track was a little lower than usual though.

Were you going for a particular type of drum sound? It sound different from what I hear on pro tracks nowadays.

Just trying to get that Ginger Baker sound. Close but no cigar.
 
man...all my mountain albums are long gone...but ginger baker wasn't the drummer, was he? I remember Blind Faith, and Army...but, it was some guy, whose name I would recognize....I think,.... that was the not-so-popular drummer for Leslie....right?
 
I think Mountain's drummer was Corky Lang.

He used to do some great double bass drum stuff, he fit Mountain like a glove.
 
You're right. Next phase was West Bruce and Lang. Doh!:confused:

Geez Mike, that song is excellent, or dare I say, 'radio ready'. I think you could get airplay with a cover like that, that would maybe launch your career. Hey, a cover tune launched Van Halen, didn't it? Him & many others, and by what I heard, maybe you too.

BTW, do the Davemania thing, you're good at it, and thanx for mentioning my project, but fact is, you blow me away with that. /DA
 
A sincere thanks Dave. that was the first crack at something like that and now I know why you did 4 CDs worth of tunes. It gets addicting.:cool:
 
Yeah, it's addicting alright. There's a wealth of material out there in covertuneland

It is fun, and it is addicting, but I'll have to try a lot harder, to come up with something as radio-ready as that! Wow, great job & keep it up.

Hey, Van Halen did "You Really Got Me", and the rest is history, but doing cover tunes is just plain fun, in and of itself.

Wow, so many cool covers :)

Loved the Mountain song Track Rat, great voice, great job.

I have a couple of old covers I did with my daughter when I first got a second hand 4-track cassette recorder. Fun stuff.

Tom, your daughter has a good voice. Is that you on pedal steel? I would want the vocal back a bit and more steel (Ilike steel guitar:D ). Great effort especially on a cassette 4 tracker.
 
Track Rat, I like your stuff. 'I'll Get Back at You' has a kind of Tom Petty sound, especially the vocals. Mountain - how about a cover of 'Mississippi Queen'?
 
Thanks, I really appriciate the listen and positive comments. I'd love to do that one too. Actually, I also did "Never In My Life" but if the kids have never heard Nantucket Sliegh Ride it's a cinch they've never heard that one.:D
