first of all...I wouldn't sugjest making your own cover art, unless you consider yourself an artist, or at least think you have a good eye. if you MUST make your own cover art, get photoshop, a some good fonts, find a photo you like (preferably TAKE a photo you like, as to avoid copyrite infringment) and slap your name in a good font somewhere that looks good. also, make sure you make the image big enough...and if you're priting them out yourself, get some photographic quality paper (shiny)...or better yet goto kinkos or something and have them print them out and cut them up for you...if you're looking to print them out yourself, you can download programs to format it for you. they usually come with CD burning software and whatnot. I'm in the process of getting my hands on one of those programs so I can start doing album art more seriously.

p.s: if you want an artsy type person to do your cover for you, give me a call! I have sample of my work and my rates are cheap! rien117@email.com

Me.I am the light and the way when it comes to this kinda stuff...Holla atcha man;)

GIMP is the hands down best image and graphics program for the price (it's free). It even includes macros for creating your own fonts (i.e., logos).

There's also a great online tutorial called Grokking the GIMP to help learn it.

That is, if you have the time and talent to do your own cover art.
